The 49ers released Johnson (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Johnson was slated to miss the entire 2023 campaign after landing on injured reserve at the beginning of August, but he's now free to sign a new contract once he can pass a physical. The 2019 seventh-round pick suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 4 last year, but it's unclear if that issue is related to his current injury.

The 49ers have placed Johnson on injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Johnson's 2022 season came to an early end after Week 4 with Seattle due to a stress fracture in his ankle. He had seemingly recovered from the issue when he inked a deal with San Francisco in June. It remains unclear what issue he is dealing with now, but he will presumably need to reach an injury settlement with the 49ers down the road once his health is back up to par if he wants a chance to play in the upcoming season.

Johnson (foot) agreed to a deal with the 49ers on Tuesday.
Johnson, who suffered a stress fracture in his ankle during Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season, was then placed on injured reserve, where he remained after having subsequent surgery on his foot. Now that he's presumably past his foot and ankle issues, the linebacker will look to secure a depth role with the 49ers. Through four NFL seasons, the 6-foot-6, 253-pounder has tallied 34 tackles and 2.0 sacks across 38 appearances with Buffalo, Carolina and Seattle.

Seahawks' Darryl Johnson: Won't return in 2022
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Johnson underwent foot surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson has been sidelined on IR since suffering a stress fracture in his ankle Week 4 against Detroit. While the specifics of his foot surgery are still unclear, the 25-year-old will now turn his focus toward recovering ahead of the 2023 campaign. As a result, veteran Bruce Irvin should continue playing a prominent role behind linebacker Darrell Taylor for the remainder of the season.

Seahawks' Darryl Johnson: Won't return from IR in Week 9
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Johnson (ankle) will not be designated to return to practice Week 9 but he could be close to coming off IR, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
Carroll added that he was hoping Johnson would be able to practice again heading into Sunday's game against Arizona, though it appears the training staff has nixed those plans. The fourth-year cornerback suffered a stress fracture in his ankle during a Week 4 win over Detroit and was subsequently placed on IR. Johnson tallied four tackles while playing 47 of his 109 total snaps on defense over the first four games of the season.

Johnson (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
Johnson suffered a serious injury against the Lions on Sunday, which coach Pete Carroll termed a stress fracture. He'll now be forced to miss Seattle's next four games, making him first eligible to return in Week 9 against Arizona. Johnson served primarily on special teams but was also a situational pass rusher for the Seahawks' defensive unit prior to going down.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Johnson (ankle) suffered a serious injury and is going to miss some time, Liz Mathews of USA Today reports.
Carroll noted that he doesn't know the specifics of Johnson's injury, but the head coach added, "I do think it's a stress fracture kind of thing that he is dealing with. That's somewhat of a significant injury." The linebacker was claimed off waivers by Seattle when Shelby Harris was sidelined with a lower-body injury and garnered a solid depth role, but it appears like he'll be sidelined for a few weeks and may even end up on IR.
