Harper signed a contract with the Jets on Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
Harper was released by the 49ers at the beginning of the month after one season with the team. In nine games with the 49ers, the 23-year-old recorded 13 receptions for 133 yards. He'll now have a chance to compete with a whole host of wideouts vying for spots behind starters Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa.

49ers' Chris Harper: Finishes with 25 yards Sunday
Harper caught all three balls thrown his way for 25 yards in a 25-23 loss to Seattle on Sunday.
Harper finished second in wide receiver targets and receptions Sunday. Despite getting some run in the second half of the season, the rookie wideout failed to make an impact in the fantasy game, finishing the season with 13 catches for 133 yards. The 49ers are devoid of talent at the wide receiver position, so the team may opt to bring him back for the 2017 season, but he would have to battle for a roster spot during training camp if they do.

49ers' Chris Harper: Catches three passes Sunday
Harper hauled in all three of his targets for 26 yards Sunday.
Harper got some run with Torrey Smith (concussion) sidelined, but still wasn't able to produce a notable fantasy performance. It is unclear if Smith will be ready for next week's game against the Rams and Quinton Patton's (foot) status is also in question. If both veteran wideouts sit, Harper could find himself in the starting lineup Saturday. That said, all starting wideouts for San Francisco this season have been held back by mediocre quarterback play.

49ers' Chris Harper: Receives five targets Sunday
Harper caught one ball for eight yards, but was targeted five times in Sunday's loss to the Jets.
Harper was recently promoted from the practice squad and he may be asked to take on an expanded role after Torrey Smith was carted off the field due to a concussion. The five targets indicate that Harper would be the next man up should Smith be unable to suit up against the Falcons next week. Even with a larger role, it would be tough to recommend the unproven wideout.

49ers' Chris Harper: Catches one pass in Week 13
Harper caught one pass (on two targets) for six yards in Week 13's loss to Chicago.
Harper caught one of the five completions San Francisco quarterbacks made in the game, so no one had a strong fantasy game from a receiving standpoint. Prior to Week 13's disastrous outing, Harper had shown some big-play ability with 67 yards on four receptions over his previous two games. With how poor the 49ers' receivers have been this season, it wouldn't be crazy to think the club gives him a longer look in the final weeks of the season. That being said, we wouldn't recommend him until heavy usage is shown on a consistent basis.

Chris Harper: Promoted from Patriots practice squad
Harper was promoted from the Patriots' practice squad on Saturday.
The 21-year-old wide receiver was signed as a rookie free agent out of California in May and was active for the season opener, but was then demoted to the practice squad. He offers depth at a much needed position, with Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Brandon LaFell all ailing.

Chris Harper: Waived by Patriots
The Patriots have waived Harper, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.
Harper, who did not catch a pass Sunday against the Broncos, muffed a punt in the contest and he's now likely headed to the Patriots' practice squad assuming he clears waivers. The move could be a good sign with regard to Danny Amendola's Week 13 status, though we suppose it's also possible that it could foreshadow the signing of another depth wideout.

Patriots' Chris Harper: Could get into the act Sunday
With both Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola out, the Patriots' wideout corps Sunday night against the Broncos will be comprised of Harper, Brandon LaFell, Keshawn Martin and special teams ace Matthew Slater.
Against the rugged Denver defense, Harper is a speculative Week 12 play, but added opportunities should exist Sunday for both him and Martin, with the duo's usage in the contest worth tracking, with future weeks -- and better matchups -- in mind.

Patriots' Chris Harper: Could see expanded role due to wideout injuries
After Aaron Dobson and Danny Amendola left Monday's win over the Bills with injuries, Brandon LaFell and Harper finished the contest as the Patriots' "lone pure receivers," ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.
With Julian Edelman already out with a foot injury, Keshawn Martin still sidelined by a hamstring issue, and Matthew Slater more of a special-teamer, the Patriots' wideout depth is being taxed to the point that the team will probably need to add some depth at the position in short order. Though Harper was not credited with a target Monday, it's possible that he could see an expanded role in the Patriots' offense in Week 12 against the Broncos, but such an outcome hinges on the health of Amendola, Martin and Dobson.
