However, it appears his inactivity Friday was simply precautionary, and he should be full go versus New York. Ferrell (knee) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's divisional matchup with the Giants, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Ferrell popped up on the Commanders' injury report Friday as a non-participant in practice due to a knee issue despite practicing in full both Wednesday and Thursday. If Ferrell's knee injury stops him from suiting up in Week 2, expect Javontae Jean-Baptiste to work as one of Washington's first-team edge rushers.

The first-year Commander was the only player to sack Baker Mayfield on Sunday, getting after the Tampa Bay's quarterback in the third quarter. Ferrell spent his 2023 campaign with the 49ers, appearing in 17 regular-season games and recording 28 total tackles, including 3.5 sacks, and forcing one fumble. The 2019 first-round pick is expected to have a significant pass-rushing role in 2024 and will look to build on Sunday's performance when Washington takes on the Giants in Week 2.

Commanders' Clelin Ferrell: Likely for opener despite swelling
Head coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Ferrell was dealing with knee swelling during fall camp but will be ready for the season opener, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Quinn added that Ferrell would have played this week if it were the regular season, hinting that he'll not appear in Sunday's preseason closer against the Patriots. The 6-foot-4 defensive end is still primed to start in Washington's season opener against the Bucs after being acquired via trade by the Commanders in March.

Ferrell spent the 2023 campaign with the 49ers, appearing in all 17 of the team's regular-season contests while producing 28 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The 49ers placed Ferrell (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Ferrell sustained a knee injury in the 49ers' regular-season finale against the Rams. Despite San Francisco having a bye week as the top seed in the NFC, he was unable to practice in the week leading up to the team's game Saturday against the Packers. Ferrell finishes the season with 28 tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 17 games. In his absence, Alex Barrett and Randy Gregory should see increased opportunities as depth edge rushers behind starters Nick Bosa and Chase Young.

Ferrell is expcted to miss multiple weeks while recovering from a knee injury suffered during the Week 18 contest versus the Rams, one that led to him being carted off the field. In his absence Saturday, Randy Gregory and/or Robert Beal should see increased playing time behind starting defensive ends Nick Bosa and Chase Young.
