Jonas Griffith: Hits free agency
Griffith (knee) will reach an injury settlement with the Broncos on Monday, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Griffith was waived with an injury designation Tuesday and reverted to IR after going unclaimed. The Indiana State product was working to come back from a torn ACL suffered in August of 2023, but he suffered a setback and will need a second surgery to help repair the injury. It's not yet clear how long it will take to recover this time, but it's unlikely he'll be on the field anytime soon.

Broncos' Jonas Griffith: Battling for starting job
Griffith, who tore his ACL in August of 2023, has been participating in drills during Denver's training camp and is competing against Cody Barton for the starting inside linebacker job alongside Alex Singleton, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Griffith noted after practice Monday that he was determined to recover from his torn ACL as fast as running back Javonte Williams did last year, per Tomasson. Griffith was able to return to minicamp in June, and the 27-year-old linebacker out of Indiana State is in a battle with Barton for the starting role at inside linebacker. Griffith signed with the Broncos in 2021, and across the first two years of his NFL career, he accumulated 92 tackles (48 solo), one pass defended, one interception and one fumble recovery over 22 regular-season games.

Now that Griffith is back at full health, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the Broncos' linebacker corps.

Broncos' Jonas Griffith: Out for season
Griffith suffered a torn ACL during practice Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
Griffith left the practice field early Tuesday, but the severity of the injury was not known at the time. After further testing, it was revealed the 26-year-old suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury, which will require surgery to repair. It's naturally a blow to both the Indiana State product and the Broncos linebacker corps, considering Grifftih was expected to fill a rotational depth role after starting eight games last season. He'll now focus on his recovery and being ready for 2024.
