The Giants promoted Mathews off their practice squad Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the Giants' official site reports.
New York has lost five linebackers to injured reserve this season, so Mathews' addition will strengthen the team's numbers at that position. It's unlikely that Mathews will be called upon for significant snaps on defense if he's active for Sunday's season finale against the Redskins.

Mathews was able to play in every preseason game despite his head injury, but he did not show enough to earn a spot on the Packers' active roster. He did snag a spot on the team's practice squad, though.

Mathews (concussion) had to leave Tuesday's practice early, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Entering his third season, Mathews has yet to play a regular season snap, so this injury couldn't be more poorly timed. The only way onto the roster for him is with a quick recovery and stellar special teams play.
