The Cardinals signed Simmons to their practice squad Wednesday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Simmons spent the preseason with the Giants, but was unable to crack New York's 53-man roster. The 26-year-old tailback will attempt to make more of a splash on Arizona's practice squad and work to earn a special teams or depth role.

Simmons had one last opportunity to prove his worth in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, and while he did rush 11 times for 41 yards, it looks like it was too little too late for the tailback. He may be a candidate to return as a member of the Giants' practice squad.

Simmons rushed 11 times for 41 yards during Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots. He also secured one of two targets for two yards receiving.
It was good to see Simmons running around after missing last week's preseason game with a concussion. However, the running back is firmly on the roster bubble and he may not have been impressive enough to make a serious case for the Giants to keep four running backs at final cuts.

Simmons is seeking a depth roster spot with with the Giants, but his performance before his injury was won't help his chances. The 26-year-old rushed six times for 11 yards, while three other Giants running backs scored Friday -- Robert Martin, Wayne Gallman and Kyle Lauletta.

Simmons has bounced around on practice squads since entering the league in 2016, but he has yet to receive a promotion to an active roster. He'll need quite the camp to make the 53-man roster come fall, as the Giants now have five total running backs on their roster.

The Chargers signed Simmons to their practice squad Wednesday, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The addition of Simmons bolsters the Chargers' backfield depth heading into the team's Week 17 matchup against Oakland. In the event Melvin Gordon (ankle) is ruled out Sunday and Austin Ekeler (finger) remains limited to special-teams work, Simmons or fellow practice squad running back Russell Hansbrough could be promoted to the 53-man roster to serve as the top backup to Branden Oliver.

Simmons played with the Panthers during the preseason but was cut prior to the start of the regular season. His only legitimate chance for promotion to the active roster would be if injuries plague the team's running back unit.

Simmons rushed nine times for 38 yards in Wednesday's preseason game versus the Texans.
Simmons also caught his lone target for two yards and returned a kickoff for 24 yards. The tailback led the Panthers in rushing to open the preseason, but he'll likely need to continue impressing to advance his case for a roster spot.
