Fotheringham joined the Texans' practice squad in late August after failing to make Las Vegas' initial 53-man roster, but it now appears that Houston has decided to move in a different direction. In a corresponding move, the Texans signed Arlington Hambright to their practice squad.

Fotheringham suffered a hamstring injury in the team's Week 17 matchup with the Colts before signing a reserve/future contract with the Raiders in January. He now looks to be a full go ahead of the 2024 campaign after he appeared in two contests with Las Vegas last season, reeling in his only target for six yards while playing 21 offensive snaps. The 26-year-old will attempt to carve out a reserve tight end role this season behind Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers.

Fotheringham recorded 15 receptions for 128 yards over eight games in his final season with Utah in 2021. The rookie tight end was the only player at his position signed in Las Vegas' class of undrafted free agents. He'll join a position group that currently features four veteran players, including Darren Waller, Foster Moreau, Jacob Hollister and Nick Bowers. Fotheringham likely will need to carve out a niche for himself as a blocking tight end this offseason.
