Cowboys' Malik Davis: Lands on IR
The Cowboys placed Davis (eye/calf) on injured reserve Saturday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Davis was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants due to eye and calf injuries that he sustained against the Commanders on Christmas Day. Both Davis and Javonte Williams (shoulder) were placed on injured reserve, which corresponded with the Cowboys activating Josh Butler (knee) from the reserve/PUP list and Phil Mafah (shoulder) from injured reserve. Davis will finish the 2025 season with 52 carries for 250 yards and two touchdowns along with two catches (on five targets) for 16 yards.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Out for Week 18
Davis (eye/calf) and Javonte Williams (neck/shoulder) have been ruled out for Sunday's game at the Giants, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Davis reportedly still can't see well after taking a blow to the eye during last week's win over Washington. He finished the game with 20 carries for 103 yards, both career highs, arguably making him the favorite for the No. 2 RB role in Dallas next year. Williams is scheduled for free agency, but the Cowboys likely will re-sign him or pursue a replacement. The 27-year-old Davis has some parallels to Rico Dowdle, who also lingered around the Dallas roster and practice squad for years before getting his shot as the No. 2 RB, which he later parlayed into a starting job.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Misses practice again Thursday
Davis (calf/eye) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
It's the second straight DNP to begin Week 18 prep for Davis, who rumbled for 103 yards on 20 carries against Washington on Christmas Day after No. 1 RB Javonte Williams (shoulder/neck) departed early. Williams has also been held out of practice the first two days this week, so the Cowboys' backfield could be severely depleted for the season finale against the Giants on Sunday. If neither Davis nor Williams is able to suit up in that game, Jaydon Blue figures to take on lead-back duties.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Held out of practice
Davis (calf/eye) didn't practice Wednesday, while fellow Cowboys running back Javonte Williams (shoulder) isn't listed on the Week 18 injury report.
Davis took 20 carries for 103 yards in last Thursday's win over Washington, taking over as the lead back after Williams left with a shoulder injury (for the second straight week). Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Davis would be a limited participant Wednesday due to an eye injury suffered toward the end of the Week 17 win, but it turns out Davis didn't practice at all. Williams, on the other hand, is off the injury report and thus likely to play, though it's possible his workload is scaled back with free agency on the horizon and Dallas eliminated from playoff contention.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Will be limited Wednesday
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Davis (eye) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Davis and starting running back Javonte Williams (shoulder) will both be listed as limited on Dallas' first injury report of Week 18, potentially paving the way for rookie Jaydon Blue to get involved on offense during Sunday's regular-season finale against the Giants. With Williams having been forced out early versus Washington on Christmas Day in Week 17, Davis went off for 103 rushing yards on 20 carries while failing to secure either of his two targets. Davis will stand to handle a significant workload versus New York in the event that he is cleared to play Sunday but Williams is not.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Hits century mark Thursday
Davis carried the ball 20 times for 103 yards and failed to catch either of his two targets in the Cowboys' 30-23 win over the Commanders on Christmas Day.
Javonte Williams (shoulder) was knocked out of the game early, and with Dallas taking a 24-10 lead into the second half, Davis saw a hefty workload as the team worked to burn the clock. It was the first 100-yard game of the fourth-year back's career -- his previous high was 47 yards, set in Week 13 this season -- and the carry volume also doubled his prior high. There's no indication yet how serious Williams' shoulder injury is, but with nothing on the line in a Week 18 clash with the Giants except the chance at a .500 record, Davis could be in line for big volume again.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Eight carries in Week 16 loss
Davis gained 23 yards on eight carries in Sunday's 34-17 loss to the Chargers.
The 27-year-old running back saw exactly eight carries for a second straight game and again picked up little yardage, but this time Davis wasn't able to salvage his fantasy production by getting into the end zone. With the Cowboys eliminated from the playoffs, Javonte Williams could lose some touches over the final two games of the season, but in that scenario rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah (shoulder) would be more likely to pick up the slack than Davis.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Finds end zone in Week 15 loss
Davis carried the ball eight times for 21 yards and a touchdown and caught two of three targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 34-26 loss to the Vikings.
Javonte Williams picked up a shoulder injury on the Cowboys' opening drive that cost him the rest of the first half, and in his absence Davis punched in a one-yard TD in the second quarter. The two backs then split backfield duties after Williams' return to begin the second half. Davis has gotten into the end zone twice in the last three games, but Sunday's 10 touches were a season high, and his fantasy appeal will be low as long as Williams is healthy. If the shoulder issue proves to be a limiting factor for Dallas' RB1, however, Davis could see elevated volume again Week 16 against the Chargers.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Limited carries again
Davis gained six rushing yards on three carries in Thursday's loss to the Lions.
For the fourth straight game, Davis saw either three or four totes while working as the No. 2 back for the Cowboys behind Javonte Williams. Thursday's production was by far his lowest during that stretch, however -- a disappointing showing after he broke free for a 43-yard TD in Week 13. As long as Williams remains healthy, Davis will remain little more than a dart throw for fantasy purposes.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Scores first TD of 2025
Davis turned three carries into 47 yards and a touchdown during the Cowboys' 31-28 win over the Chiefs on Thursday.
Davis played just nine snaps on offense compared to Javonte Williams' 56, but the former helped give the Cowboys a 17-14 lead in the second quarter with a 43-yard touchdown run. With rookie fifth-rounder Jaydon Blue a healthy scratch for each of Dallas' last four games, Davis appears to be fully entrenched as the RB2 behind Williams, though the latter figures to still serve as the team's workhorse out of the backfield. Davis has logged 10 carries for 91 yards across three games since the Cowboys' Week 10 bye.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Three carries in Week 12 win
Davis carried the ball three times for 24 yards in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Eagles.
The 26-year-old filled the No. 2 role in the Dallas backfield but was a distant second to Javonte Williams (101 total yards on 22 touches) in workload. Davis has taken seven carries for 44 yards over the last two weeks since moving ahead of rookie Jaydon Blue on the depth chart -- an impressive 6.3 yards per carry -- but his fantasy utility is extremely limited as long as Williams is healthy.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Joins Dallas' active roster
The Cowboys signed Davis to their active roster off the practice squad Saturday.
Davis logged a season-high 19 percent offensive snap share and turned in campaign-high marks with four carries for 20 yards last Sunday against Las Vegas. He reverted back to the Cowboys' practice squad Wednesday, but Dallas has now decided to sign him to the active roster. Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News speculates that Davis will take on the No. 2 RB role behind Javonte Williams, which is how he had been deployed the past two weeks. Jaydon Blue thus seems marked for third in the RB pecking order.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Reverts to practice squad
Davis reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log.
The Florida product has operated as the Cowboys' No. 2 running back in each of the team's last two games, rushing five times for 23 yards while rookie Jaydon Blue has been a healthy scratch. It's likely that Davis will return to Dallas' active roster before the team's Week 12 matchup against the Eagles.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Elevated ahead of MNF
Davis was elevated from the Cowboys' practice squad ahead of Monday's game against the Raiders, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Davis could be active as the Cowboys' No. 2 running back ahead of rookie Jaydon Blue. The 26-year-old has appeared in three games this season, logging 89 snaps on offense and 275 on special teams. He's carried the ball three times for just six yards.

Malik Davis: Signs with Dallas' practice squad
The Cowboys signed Davis to their practice squad Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Davis was not claimed by another team after Dallas waived him Tuesday, and now he's back with the club's practice squad. With Javonte Williams and rookie fifth-rounder Jaydon Blue currently the only healthy running backs on the 53-man roster, Davis again could become a candidate for elevation after the Cowboys' bye in Week 10.

Malik Davis: Gets waived
Dallas waived Davis on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The Cowboys signed Davis to their active roster Monday ahead of their game versus the Cardinals, but now he's headed to waivers just one day later. He could be a candidate to join back up with Dallas' practice squad if he's not claimed by another team during the current waiver period.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Active Monday while Blue isn't
Davis is active but fellow RB Jaydon Blue (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Davis was signed from the practice squad to the active roster Monday, and now he and Hunter Luepke will be the options at running back behind starter Javonte Williams. Blue lost a fumble during the Cowboys' Week 8 loss at Denver, so this move appears to be related to performance. In any case, Davis has just two carries for three yards in two previous appearances this season, and he's unlikely to carve too much into Williams' workhorse role Week 9.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Signed ahead of Monday's game
The Cowboys signed Davis off their practice squad prior to Monday's game versus the Cardinals.
Davis was eligible to elevated from the Cowboys' practice squad one more time, but Dallas instead elected to make him a permanent member of the 53-man roster ahead of Monday's contest. He'll provide depth at running back behind Javonte Williams and Jaydon Blue but is likely to provide most of his contributions on the Cowboys' special-teams units.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Heads back to practice squad
Davis reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Davis was elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's 44-24 loss to the Broncos, logging two carries for three yards while playing four offensive snaps. Additionally, he was on the field for 20 snaps with the special-teams unit. Davis can be elevated once more this season before the team would have to officially sign him to the active roster.

Cowboys' Malik Davis: Joins active roster
Davis was elevated to the Cowboys' active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
With Miles Sanders (knee/ankle) and Phil Mafah (shoulder) both on injured reserve, Davis' elevation provides the Cowboys with running-back depth. The Florida product was active for Dallas' Week 7 win over the Commanders, failing to record an offensive stat across 19 total snaps (18 on special teams, one on offense). He's expected to play a similar role in the Week 8 matchup against the Broncos on Sunday.
