Patriots' Marte Mapu: Won't play Week 11
Mapu (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Rams.
A neck injury has limited Mapu in practice all week, and the issue appears too severe for him to play Sunday. Jaylinn Hawkins and Dell Pettus are candidates to start at free safety alongside strong safety Kyle Dugger. Mapu's next chance to suit up will be Week 12 against the Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Mapu is considered questionable to return to Sunday's tilt against the Titans due to a neck injury.

Mapu (neck) has returned to Sunday's matchup with the Titans, Taylor Kyles of CLNSMedia.com reports.

Patriots' Marte Mapu: Practices in full Thursday
Mapu (neck) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Mapu popped up on New England's injury report Wednesday due to a neck injury that he likely sustained in Week 6 against the Texans. The issue doesn't appear to be severe, however, as Mape was able to practice without limitations Thursday. The 2023 third-round pick opened the regular season on IR with an unspecified injury, but he was able to return in Week 5 against the Dolphins. Mape has registered 12 tackles (three solo), including 0.5 sacks, two pass breakups and one forced fumble over his two regular-season outings.

Patriots' Marte Mapu: Nearing return
Mapu (undisclosed) is expected to be designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
Mapu has been on IR since Week 1 prep began and has missed the mandatory four games of action. He'll now be able to practice with the team once he's officially designated to return. Considering the amount of time he's missed, it's unlikely the 24-year-old will be moved to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins, but further clarity there should be available later in the week.

Patriots' Marte Mapu: IR bound
Mapu (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Mapu will have a chance to return this season since the Patriots used one of their two designated to return IR spots from cutdown day. The second-year pro will still need to miss the first four games of the season, but will then be eligible to return Week 5, assuming he is healthy enough to do so.

Patriots' Marte Mapu: Dealing with injury
Head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters Wednesday that Mapu is considered week-to-week with an undisclosed injury, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Reiss also noted that Mapu hasn't practiced since the first day of Patriots' training camp, so it's been almost a full month since he last touched the field. While the Sacramento State product remains sidelined, expect Joshuah Bledsoe to see more reps as New England's second-team free safety.
