Riley Patterson: Cut by New York
The Jets waived Patterson on Friday.
Kicking in his first game for New York last Thursday night against the Texans, Patterson made all three of his extra points but didn't attempt a field goal. The Jets apparently felt it wasn't good enough and decided to sign Anders Carlson to the practice squad Friday. Greg Zuerlein (knee) remains on injured reserve for at least three more games.

Jets' Riley Patterson: Doesn't miss in Jets debut
Patterson didn't attempt a field goal but made all three of his PAT tries in Thursday's 21-13 win over the Texans.
Making his Jets debut after Greg Zuerlein (knee) was placed on injured reserve, Patterson wasn't called upon to do much, but it was refreshing nonetheless for Jets fans to see every kick connect after Zuerlein had at least one miss in five of the previous six games. Patterson's first PAT went in off the upright. The former Lions, Jaguars and Browns kicker will next kick in Week 10 against the Cardinals.

Jets' Riley Patterson: Signed to active roster
The Jets signed Patterson to their 53-man roster Thursday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
With Greg Zuerlein (knee) landing on injured reserve Wednesday and thus set to miss at least four games, the Jets had added Patterson and Spencer Shrader to their practice squad. The Jets have decided to give Patterson the first chance to replace Zuerlein as their kicker, beginning with Thursday's game against the Texans. Patterson has previously made 39 appearances at the NFL level over the last three seasons, converting 88.1 percent of his field-goal tries across stops with the Lions, Jaguars and Browns.

Riley Patterson: Finds new opportunity
Patterson signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Patterson has been on the free agent market since getting waived by the Commanders in August. The 25-year-old kicked for the Lions last season, appearing in 13 games and making 88 percent of his FGAs. He'll spend Wednesday competing with fellow practice squad signing Spencer Shrader to see who will kick for the Jets on Thursday against the Texans, as Greg Zuerlein (knee) is not expected to play.

Riley Patterson: Cut loose in favor of Cade York
The Commanders waived Patterson on Thursday.
Washington traded for Cade York, who now replaces Patterson as the only kicker on the roster. It's possible Patterson gets a look from another team with a shaky placekicking situation, but he may have to settle for a spot on a practice squad or wait until the season begins before receiving another opportunity.

Commanders' Riley Patterson: Last one standing
Patterson is the only kicker on the Commanders' roster now after the team cut Ramiz Ahmed on Wednesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Patterson hasn't won the job yet, as head coach Dan Quinn stated that he still considers it an open competition. The goal in letting go of Ahmed was to give the Memphis product all the reps this week. The 24-year-old will likely see new competition on board next week.

Commanders' Riley Patterson: Snatched by Washington
The Commanders claimed Patterson off waivers from the Jaguars on Wednesday.
Patterson lost the kicking competition in Jacksonville just two days ago, but he's quickly found work again with Washington. The 24-year-old kicker made 15 of his 17 field goal attempts with Detroit last season and has gone 93-of-97 on extra-point tries during his career. Patterson will now compete with Ramiz Ahmed for the Commanders' placekicking duties.

Riley Patterson: Loses competition in Jacksonville
The Jaguars waived Patterson on Monday.
Patterson had been competing with rookie sixth-rounder Cam Little for Jacksonville's starting kicking job, and it looks like Little came out ahead. Patterson, who turns 25 in September, has converted 59 of 67 field-goal attempts (88.1 percent) in his career, but just 19 of 25 tries (76.0 percent) from 40-plus yards.
