Seahawks' Rodney Thomas: Heading to Seattle
Thomas and the Seahawks agreed to terms on a one-year contract Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Thomas will call Seattle his home for the first time in his NFL career after spending the last four seasons with the Colts. He was a key part of the Colts' secondary in the two years after being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Thomas saw less defensive snaps over the last two years and more work on special teams, and he finished the 2025 regular season with 21 tackles (14 solo) across 17 games. He'll likely see most of his snaps on special teams in Seattle but would be in line for more snaps in the secondary if one or both of Ty Okada and Julian Love were to miss time.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Three tackles in opener

Thomas played on just 10 of the defense's 47 snaps, but he had an outsized impact. He'll get limited snaps as a reserve safety.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Limited role off bench
Thomas didn't have a tackle and played just three snaps on defense in Sunday's win over Chicago.
Thomas started 15 of 17 games last season but lost the starting free safety job to Nick Cross. It's a little surprising he has a limited role off the bench. He's played just 25 snaps on defense in three games.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Facing competition
Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said Wednesday that Thomas will have to compete for the Colts' starting free safety job in 2024, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Thomas started 15 of 17 games last season, but that doesn't mean he'll maintain his spot atop the depth chart heading into 2024. Bradley stated that both Daniel Scott (knee) and Nick Cross will have the opportunity to take the job from Thomas, who finished the 2023 campaign with 34 tackles, four pass breakups and two interceptions.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Will play Sunday
Thomas (knee) is active Sunday against the Panthers.
Thomas was a late addition to the team's injury report, not appearing there until Friday. However, the second-year pro is well enough to take the field in Week 9 and should continue to start at free safety.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Questionable Week 9
Thomas (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Thomas did not appear on the Colts' injury report Wednesday or Thursday before popping up with a knee issue Friday. However, the 25-year-old was still a full participant Friday, so it appears the injury may not be all that serious. Thomas has recorded 22 tackles, three passes defended and an interception across eight games as Indianapolis' starting free safety this season.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Three tackles in loss
Thomas started at strong safety and had three total tackles in Sunday's loss to Jacksonville.
Thomas was a revelation for a struggling Colts secondary last season as he moved into the starting lineup. He missed time with a toe injury during training camp, but looks fully healthy. Colts' Rodney Thomas: Returns to practice
Thomas (toe) returned to practice Tuesday, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Thomas was a revelation for a struggling Colts secondary last season as he moved into the starting lineup where he is expected to remain in 2023 alongside fellow safety Julian Blackmon. His toe injury sounds minor, but monitor his status the next week or two.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Sitting with injury
Thomas is not practicing Tuesday due to a toe injury, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
It's unclear how long Thomas may need to be sidelined, but any kind of extended absence would be detrimental to the Colts' secondary. He'll now focus on getting healthy and back out onto the practice field.

Colts' Rodney Thomas: Seven stops in blowout loss
Thomas recorded seven tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 38-10 defeat to the Giants.
Thomas matched his season high for tackles while playing all but six of the Colts' 63 defensive snaps Week 18. The rookie seventh-round pick has played in a very prominent role in the team's secondary with nickel cornerback Kenny Moore (ankle) sidelined over the past four games. As a result, Thomas has recorded 20 tackles and three passes defended, including two interceptions, over this span. He should have a chance to continue adding to this strong end to his rookie season Week 18 against Houston.

Thomas had one total tackle but played on all 59 of the defense's snaps in Sunday's loss at Tennessee.
Thomas got the start at free safety even with Julian Blackmon active and playing 21 snaps. It's not clear if Thomas has overtaken Blackmon for the starting job or if Blackmon is just working his way back to full speed after not playing for three games due to an ankle injury.
