Mike Boone: Back to practice squad
Boone reverted to the Panthers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Boone was the Panthers' No. 2 running back Sunday behind Chubba Hubbard due to injuries to Jonathon Brooks (knee), Miles Sanders (ankle) and Raheem Blackshear (chest). Even with Velus Jones being limited to four special-teams snaps, Boone ended the game playing just three of the Panthers' 55 offensive snaps and turned his two carries into 14 yards. Boone could be elevated for Week 16 against the Cardinals if Blackshear is unable to progress enough in his recovery to play.

Panthers' Mike Boone: Elevated from practice squad
The Panthers have elevated Boone from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
The Panthers will be without Jonathon Brooks (knee), Miles Sanders (ankle) and Raheem Blackshear (chest), so Boone will operate as the No. 2 running back behind Chuba Hubbard on Sunday. Boone has four carries for seven yards across two games this season.

Mike Boone: Will work as No. 2 back at practice
Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Monday that Boone will work as the No. 2 running back behind Chuba Hubbard with Jonathon Brooks (knee) out for the year and Raheem Blackshear (chest) considered day-to-day, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Boone, who Carolina signed to the practice squad back in October, could get a chance to be elevated Week 15 against Dallas, as currently Hubbard is the only healthy running back on the Panthers' active roster. If Blackshear is forced to sit out versus the Cowboys, Boone may even be called upon to work as the top backup to Hubbard. Carolina's other most notable depth option, Miles Sanders (ankle), won't be eligible to return from IR until Week 16, at the earliest.

Mike Boone: Back in Carolina
Boone signed with the Panthers' practice squad Thursday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Boone has bounced between Carolina's practice squad, active roster and free agency this season. He was most recently released from the 53-man roster Tuesday and hadn't suited up since Week 3, when he played just 15 snaps on special teams. In a corresponding move, the Panthers released Stephen Sullivan from the practice squad to make room for Boone.

Mike Boone: Released by Carolina
The Panthers released Boone on Tuesday.
Boone had appeared in just two of the Panthers' first five games, logging five offensive snaps and another 34 on special teams. He rushed four times for seven scoreless yards. Boone had been serving as Carolina's RB4 behind Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear. Boone is now 29 years old and will look for work elsewhere, though he's also a candidate to go to Carolina's practice squad.

Panthers' Mike Boone: Inactive for Week 2
Boone (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
The Panthers signed Boone off the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday after he played 24 snaps (five on offense, 19 on special teams) and turned four carries into seven yards in Week 1 against the Saints. The 29-year-old will not suit up against the Chargers, however, and the Panthers will go with Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear as the three active running backs for Sunday's contest. Boone's next chance at playing will be Week 3 against the Raiders on Sept. 22.

Mike Boone: Reverts to practice squad
Boone reverted to Carolina's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Despite playing just five offensive snaps in the Panthers' loss at New Orleans in Week 1, Boone carried the football four times, albeit for seven yards. With Jonathon Brooks (knee) still out, it wouldn't be surprising to see Boone called back up for Week 2.

Panthers' Mike Boone: Impresses vs. Patriots
Boone rushed eight times for 34 yards while also catching three of his four targets for 17 yards during Thursday's 17-3 preseason loss to the Patriots.
Boone helped his chances of making the Panthers' 53-man roster Thursday by recording 51 yards from scrimmage while playing the most snaps (30) of any Carolina running back. The seventh-year pro saw that many opportunities due to Carolina resting its top three healthy RBs: Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear. Nonetheless, Boone outshined both Dillon Johnson and Jaden Shirden and now likely now has a chance of making it past the Panthers' final roster cuts.
