Jalen Mayfield: Gets workout with Cleveland
The Browns hosted Mayfield (ankle) for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Mayfield signed with the Giants in January after spending the first two years of his NFL career with the Falcons. He was placed on the Giants' IR after sustaining an ankle injury during New York's preseason finale, and he was let go one day later with an injury settlement. Mayfield appears to have recovered from his ankle injury, and he'll look to add depth to a Browns' offensive line dealing with injuries to starting guards Jack Conklin (knee) and Jedrick Wills (knee).

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Working at multiple spots along OL
Mayfield has been working at right tackle during the Falcons' recent OTAs, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Mayfield, a 2021 third-round pick, was the Falcons' starting left guard as a rookie but missed the entire 2022 campaign with a back injury. He's back to full strength this offseason and has been working at right guard and right tackle during OTAs. Mayfield won't be replacing Kaleb McGary or Chris Lindstrom as a starter on the right side of the line, so the Michigan product looks poised to serve as a versatile backup in 2023. Mayfield previously played right tackle in college.

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Back during OTAs
Mayfield (back) was seen taking some reps at right guard during 11-on-11 drills throughout last week's OTA practices, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
The Falcons' 2021 third-round pick missed the entire 2022 NFL season with a back injury, but he's back on the field after having moved past the health issue. During his rookie campaign, Mayfield started all but one game for Atlanta at left guard, but the team now has him taking snaps at right guard. He won't be starting over All-Pro right guard Chris Lindstrom, so it's most likely that Mayfield will serve as a depth piece for the Falcons' offensive line.

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Practice window expires
Mayfield (back) reverted back to IR on Thursday after his practice window's expiration, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Mayfield will spend the rest of the season on IR after the Falcons failed to activate him within his 21-day practice window. The veteran started 16 games at left guard for Atlanta last season, so with Chuma Edoga (knee) dealing with injury, Mayfield's presence could have been a legitimate boost.

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Lands on IR
The Falcons placed Mayfield (back) on injured reserve Thursday, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
Mayfield dealt with back issues for the majority of training camp and will now be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season due to the lingering issue. The 2021 third-round pick started 16 games at left guard for Atlanta as a rookie, but his poor play coupled with the injury has allowed Elijah Wilkinson to claim that role. Even when Mayfield is clear to return, he'll have a difficult time taking back his starting gig.

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Practicing Monday
Mayfield (lower back) returned to practice Monday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Mayfield started 16 games at left guard for the Falcons last year, but a lower-back issue has kept him sidelined for parts of training camp, which has allowed newcomer Elijah Wilkinson to garner the majority of first-team reps at left guard. Now healthy, Mayfield will look to take back his starting role, though he may have an uphill battle as Wilkinson has reportedly been performing well through the first two weeks of camp.

Falcons' Jalen Mayfield: Still dealing with back issue
Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said Mayfield (lower back) didn't practice Friday, but the team is hoping the issue calms down soon, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Mayfield started 16 games at left guard for the Falcons last year before sitting out the season finale due to a back issue. It's unclear if his current back injury is related to the one he suffered last year, but either way, it's a concerning development for the 2021 third-round pick. Newcomer Elijah Wilkinson has garnered the majority of the first-team reps over Mayfield to start training camp, but it remains unclear if that is due to Mayfield's injury or a permanent change to the depth chart.
