  • Jerreth Sterns: Waived by Rams

The Rams waived Sterns on Friday.

Sterns inked a reserve/future contract with the Rams in January but has been let go ahead of the new league year, which begins March 15. The 5-foot-9 wideout initially signed with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent in May 2022 but was cut ahead of the regular season. He rejoined the organization on practice-squad deal in late December, but he's still looking to make his NFL debut.

  • Rams' Jerreth Sterns: Staying in LA

The Rams signed Sterns to a reserve/future contract Monday.

Sterns signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in May 2022, though he was let go as part of the team's final roster cuts in August. The 5-foot-9 wideout then went unsigned before joining the Rams' practice squad Dec. 22. Sterns will now look to make his NFL debut heading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Jerreth Sterns: Lands practice-squad contract

The Rams signed Sterns to the practice squad Thursday.

Sterns spent the preseason with Tampa Bay but was waived as part of the team's final roster cuts in late August. The undrafted wideout from Western Kentucky will now look to work his way up from the active roster into the Rams' injury-ridden wide receiver corps.

  • Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: Misses final roster

The Buccaneers cut Sterns on Monday, Greg Auman of the Athletic reports.

Sterns was productive in the preseason and was immensely productive for Western Kentucky in 2021, but the diminutive wideout (5-foot-7, 183 pounds) is probably restricted to the slot, where the Buccaneers presumably plan to feed Chris Godwin (knee) and Russell Gage. If the Buccaneers can pin Sterns to their practice squad, there's a good chance they do it, because even if he is limited to the slot, they could use his services if either of Godwin or Gage misses time.

  • Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: No targets over 16 snaps Saturday

Sterns did not log a target during the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night.

The Western Kentucky alum was blanked for the first time this preseason, but it may have been at least partly by design. Greg Auman of The Athletic speculates Sterns may have been purposely underused in the finale in order to potentially make it easier to eventually get him through waivers and onto the practice squad. Sterns still has an opportunity to nab a possible No. 7 receiver spot on the active roster as well, but Auman projects fellow UDFA Deven Thompkins for that slot due to his ability to play special teams.

  • Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: Pair of catches in preseason loss

Sterns brought in two of four targets for 13 yards in the Buccaneers' 13-3 preseason loss to the Titans on Saturday night.

Sterns didn't quite have the same impact as during a preseason-opening performance against the Dolphins when he posted a 4-51-1 line, but the undrafted rookie at least showed up on the stat sheet again. Sterns' ongoing bid to secure the final receiver spot will continue during Saturday's night's exhibition finale against the Colts, but if Sterns indeed loses the competition to fellow UDFA Deven Thompkins, he would seem to be a good candidate for the practice squad.

  • Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: Impresses in preseason opener

Sterns secured all four targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

Sterns had a prolific college career at Western Kentucky that included a pair of 100-catch seasons, and he'd been building some momentum in training camp practices heading into Saturday night. Sterns didn't disappoint once the lights went on, highlighting his solid night with a 19-yard touchdown grab midway through the third quarter. While the Buccaneers' top five wideout spots are likely etched in stone when factoring in the projected inclusion of Tyler Johnson on the final 53-man roster, Greg Auman of The Athletic predicts Sterns could be a candidate for a likely No. 7 receiver spot if he can produce similarly in the Buccaneers' final two preseason games.
