Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 3 (Boston leads 2-1)
Bruins 4, Capitals 3 (Recap | Box score)
Zdeno Chara: The Bruins star defenseman had the winning goal in the dying minutes. In a game this tight, that's worthy of the nod to Chara. He was his usual self in the defensive zone, holding his own. Oh by the way he also had a pair of assists in the game, matching Brooks Laich of the Capitals for the game-high with three points.
Can it be anything but Chara's game-winning goal? The game was back and forth all night, neither team was able to seize the control at any point, there wasn't a whole lote of momentum to speak of. So his 4-on-4 tally in the final two minutes has to be it, only because it was the last. It was a bad break for the Capitals, Roman Hamrlik's stick lifted it up and didn't give goaltender Braden Holtby a chance.
Back and forth. As mentioned above, the ice never tilted one way or the other for very long. Thankfully for the fans of scoring, the ice opened up significantly, particularly after the first period and we saw some scoring chances. Helping the flow open were the penalties, giving a lot of 4-on-4 time or power plays. The Bruins dominated the action in the 4-on-4 situations for the most part. Another way to describe it would have been more physical, that definitely ramped up in Game 3.
