The Boston Bruins placed veteran forward Maxime Talbot on waivers Monday. The Bruins were getting a little redundant in the bottom six and it appears Talbot was the odd man out.
His departure makes some room for players like Ryan Spooner and Brett Connolly to take on more established roles. The club will also have Jimmy Hayes and Zac Rinaldo to provide some of the bottom-six physicality. This move also makes it appear as though Tyler Randell will make the opening-night roster. He had 20 points and 120 penalty minutes in 74 AHL games last season.
Talbot has been bouncing around after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He came to the Bruins last season in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche and posted three assists in 18 games as Boston faltered down the stretch. He had 18 points in 81 contests overall, the lowest total of his career in a full season.
Talbot is just 31 years old and since Colorado retained some salary on that trade, he would come fairly cheap. There's a chance he could get claimed off waivers, but with most teams already setting their opening-night rosters, it would appear more likely he ends up going to the minors once he clears.
Talbot has appeared in 666 NHL games and has 197 career points.
