The NHL announced on Sunday evening that Rangers forward Carl Hagelin has been suspended three games for elbowing Ottawa Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson on Saturday.
Hagelin was one of three players to have disciplinary hearings scheduled after what was a rough day around the NHL. He is the second player to earn a suspension this postseason, joining Canucks forward Byron Bitz who was issued a two-game suspension for a hit on Kyle Clifford.
Here is Brendan Shanahan's explanation for the Hagelin suspension.
Hagelin said he texted an apology to Alfredsson following the game.
Alfredsson had to leave Game 2 following the play and did not return.
