For most of Tuesday's game between the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs, it was difficult to tell which team was fighting to keep its playoff hopes alive (it should have been Buffalo), and which one was in a two month long fall down the Eastern Conference Standings (Toronto).
Finally, for the Sabres, desperation kicked in and they were able to pull off an incredible 6-5 overtime win that required a third period comeback that included three goals. It was a comeback that was finally completed with one of the craziest, most bizarre goals of the NHL season that somehow went in off the stick of defenseman Jordan Leopold.
How? I'm not sure anybody really knows.
Let's watch as it all unfolded in front of the Toronto net, as every player on the ice turned that section of ice into a clown car of madness and insanity.
Seriously, what the heck was going on here, and how did the referees not lose sight of the puck?
If you wanted to sum up the season for the Maple Leafs in one play, that just might be it.
Derek Roy would go on to score the game-winning goal in overtime, on a power play, after Toronto defenseman Dion Phaneuf was penalized for delay of game for shooting the puck into the stands from the defensive zone.
With the win Buffalo is now tied with Washington for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres visit Philadelphia on Thursday night, while the Capitals host the Florida Panthers, a game that has quite a bit of importance given the other events that transpired on Tuesday night (Florida's overtime loss to Winnipeg).
