Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Evgeny Medvedev was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a report from NBC Philadelphia.
According to police, Medvedev was pulled over around 2:45 a.m. for a traffic violation. Charges have not yet been filed as police await toxicology results, per the report. Medvedev was released from police custody.
The 33-year-old Russian native just completed his first NHL season. He signed a one-year, $3 million deal as an unrestricted free agent out of the KHL last summer. Medvedev appeared in 45 games with the Flyers, but did not play in any of their six playoff games against the Washington Capitals.
Flyers GM Ron Hextall had a media availibility Wednesday. He would not comment on Medvedev's situation. He also revealed that the team is unlikely to re-sign the defenseman this offseason according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
It is unclear if Medvedev will have many NHL options should he choose to stay in the U.S. for next season. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
