This seems like it would have been a long shot at the start of the free agency period, but the Dallas Stars have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Jaromir Jagr.
The deal is worth $4.5 million.
Jagr made $3.3 million with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2010-11 season, scoring 19 goals and 35 assists during his return to the NHL. The final numbers were pretty strong for a 39-year-old forward that had been three years removed from the NHL game (he had been playing in the KHL), but his production had a pretty noticeable decline over the second half of the season.
He scored just one goal in 11 playoff games.
It's already been quite an offseason for the Stars as they've not only added Jagr, they also signed 40-year-old forward Ray Whitney to a two-year deal.
On Monday they acquired center Derek Roy from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy, which came after they traded Mike Ribeiro to the Washington Capitals.
Add all of that together and the Stars top-two lines will be made up of some combination of Jagr, Roy, Whitney, Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson. I don't know if they're a better or a worse team at this point, but they're certainly a different team.
And a little older.
The Stars finished last season 21st in the league in goals scored and were tied for last on the power play, converting on less than 14 percent of their chances with the man advantage.
They've certainly done whatever they can to address both areas.
