Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal has himself a meeting with Brendan Shanahan and the Department of Player Safety on Wednesday. It stems from his boarding call on Kings captain Dustin Brown in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals that earned Hanzal a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

Hanzal is so not hot right now.

With the Coyotes trailing by three goals in a series they were dangerously close to being down 0-2 in (which came to fruition), the frustrations started to boil over for the Coyotes. That led to this hit where Brown was driven into the end boards from behind by Hanzal.

It's a classic case of boarding on Hanzal and this one seemed pretty clearly that it would garner a hearing with the league. It was really a reckless play, a word I'm sure Shanahan will use in his hearing with Hanzal and possibly in his suspension video, if a suspension is indeed coming.

I'd be a little surprised if there weren't one. I'd expect to see Hanzal sit out for Game 3. I don't expect it to be two games, but it's possible.

Hanzal's hit on Brown wasn't the only questionable hit from a Coyotes player on Tuesday night. Shane Doan also received a game misconduct for boarding and Derek Morris had a kneeing penalty that drew some people's ire.

But according to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, only Hanzal is facing supplemental discipline here.

I can't disagree much with the decisions on Morris and Doan. In Doan's case it was a tough call against him as Trevor Lewis definitely did appear to put himself in a vulnerable position just prior to the hit. Again, I'm using language used by Shanahan all season long.

But things are likely going from bad to worse for the Coyotes in this series. Potentially losing Hanzal for game or two doesn't fit the "this is what they need" mold.
