Sometimes you simply need to be a little lucky to score a goal in the NHL, which is about the only way you can describe this goal credited to Islanders forward Matt Moulson in the first period of Tuesday's game against the Washington Capitals.

With John Tavares positioned in front of the net, Moulson fired a shot from just outside the circle that appeared to deflect off Tavares' stick, bounced off the glass, flew over the net, and then bounced off of Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth as he attempted to catch it, only to watch it land in the net.

They couldn't pull this off again if they tried.



The goal was initially credited to Tavares, but was later changed to Moulson, giving him at least 30 goals in three straight seasons.

Adding further insult to the Capitals, the Islanders second goal of the period went in after the puck deflected in off of John Carlson's skate.

In the end, however, the Capitals would get the last laugh and erase a 4-1 deficit to pick up a 5-4 shootout win.
