Preview: Team-by-team | Picks | 50 things to watch | Top 50 players | All-NHL

The NHL is back open for business.

Training camps opened up on Sunday. That also meant GMs were free to do what they do, which is sign and trade players. Training camps won't last long at all, so the player movement should happen faster than normal. Keep up with it all here.

3:36 p.m.
One rather big absence in Avalanche camp is Ryan O'Reilly. He too is a restricted free agent and in lieu of a deal, he signed in the KHL for the lockout. The problem is TSN's Bob McKenzie says there have been no contract talks of substance. Big hurt for the Avs while he's not there.
1:40 p.m.
Eric Fehr is going back to Washington after the Capitals signed the forward to a one-year deal worth $600,000. Fehr spent a disappointing season with the Jets last year, scoring just two goals and one assist in 35 games. In 2009-10 with the Caps, Fehr had his best season scoring 21 goals and posting 18 assists.
1:20 p.m.
There was an expectation that the Vancouver Canucks were going to bring in Cam Barker for a tryout on the blueline during training camp but they're bringing him in for more than that. The Canucks signed Barker to a one-year contract worth $700,000 per Pierre LeBrun. He'll likely be the 7th or 8th defenseman in Vancouver.
12:33 p.m.
The defending champion Kings didn't do much before the lockout but they did make a deal soon after the lockout, acquiring Anthony Stewart and two draft picks from the Hurricanes for Kevin Westgarth.
12:04 p.m.
With Brian Boucher being traded to Philadelphia, it opened up a spot for Dan Ellis to back up Cam Ward. It looks like that's exactly what's going to happen as the Canes signed Ellis to a one-year deal worth $650,000.
12:04 p.m.
Jochen Hecht has himself a new contract in Buffalo for one season and $1 million so he's ready to go with the rest of the Sabres in camp.
11:53 a.m.
One player who won't be on the ice to open camp in Dallas is a pretty big one: Jamie Benn. The young forward remains an unrestricted free agent and can't join his team on the ice until he has a new contract, which doesn't appear to be on the horizon at this point.
11:40 a.m.
Another veteran free agent getting a tryout will be Mike Knuble in Detroit. The Red Wings already have a pretty full cupboard at forward but Knuble still has value. He struggled last season in Washington with a lot of bad puck luck but he scored 24 goals as recently as 2010-11. Knuble will turn 41 this summer.
11:32 a.m.
Veteran free agent Mathieu Darche, formerly of the Canadiens, will be spending training camp with the New Jersey Devils on a tryout. Last season the 36-year-old Darche had five goals and seven assists in 61 games.
11:25 a.m.
The New York Rangers' first order of business in the new CBA was to re-sign restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto and get him into camp. They did that Sunday morning with a two-year deal for a reproted salary of a little more than $2.5 million. The Rangers also signed Matt Gilroy.
11 a.m.
The Montreal Canadiens have decided they will pay Scott Gomez to sit at home. The Canadiens sent the expensive forward back home to wait out the season before he is bought out this summer.
10:17 a.m.
One rumored move on Saturday night before the CBA became official on Sunday morning. The Toronto Maple Leafs have also made a move to add to some of their depth at defense by signing Mike Mottau to a two-way deal.
10:00 a.m.
The first trade of the new CBA brings a familiar face back to Philadelphia. Again. The Flyers acquired Brian Boucher from the Carolina Hurricanes along with Mark Alt for Luke Pither. Boucher will be the third goalie in Flyers camp with Ilya Bryzgalov and Michael Leighton while the departure of Boucher in Carolina might open the door for Dan Ellis to be Cam Ward's backup.
9:45 a.m.
Tom Poti missed all of the 2011-12 season with the Washington Capitals, and many thought his career might be done. Not yet. The Caps have sent Poti to AHL Hershey for a conditioning assignment to potentially get back with the big club down the line.
9:36 a.m.
Another team looking to add some depth on defense, the Flyers signed free-agent Kurtis Foster to a one-year contract. For Foster, the Flyers mark his sixth NHL team since the start of the 2009-10 season. Last season, he played 51 games split among Anaheim, New Jersey and Minnesota.
9:33 a.m.
The first roster addition in the new CBA was made by the New York Islanders. In need of some security on defense with the continued question marks surrounding Lubomir Visnovsky, the Isles have brought back Radek Martinek with a one-year deal. He has played 460 NHL games in his career, 453 of those were with the Islanders.
