It sounds like the LA Kings' bid to repeat as Stanley Cup champions has taken a bit of a hit. TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that defenseman and alternate captain Matt Greene is out for the season with a back injury.
Greene didn’t miss a game for LA in 2011-12. The stay-at-home defenseman had 241 hits and 112 blocked shots last season to go along with a career-best 15 points.
During the Kings’ Cup run last year, Greene put up six points, collected a plus-9 rating and delivered 77 hits in 20 games.
The 6-3, 232-pound defenseman had an assist and logged 18:01 of ice time in LA’s season-opening loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
The Kings have recalled Andrew Bodnarchuk from the American Hockey League's Manchester Monarchs, according to NHL.com.
