Hockey players hanging out at bars and nightclubs in the early morning hours have, for some reason, been a hot topic of discussion over the past week (breaking news: athletes like to party).

First we had Nashville Predators forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn taking in everything Glendale, Ariz., has to offer in advance of their Game 2 loss to the Coyotes. Their night on the town resulted in the duo being benched for the following two games for breaking curfew, and it may have cost the Predators in their 1-0 loss in Game 4.

Now we head over to Finland and the adventures of team Canada members (and Anaheim Ducks teammates) Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. The two are alleged to have been involved in an incident with a bunch of Finnish fans at a nightclub following Canada's 5-4 overtime loss to the United States over the weekend.

Some details from Terry Jones of QMI:

MTV3, the official broadcaster of the world hockey championship, reported on its website that Getzlaf, winger Corey Perry and a few other Team Canada players were involved in an incident with drunken Finnish fans following their Saturday night overtime loss to the United States.

Getzlaf was alleged to have waved his fist at the Finns and said that “you do not want this” of his fist.

Another report said proclaimed himself as “the captain of the Anaheim Ducks” and that he “threatened to knock everyone out in three minutes.”
Sara Sieppi, a former Miss Finland, was also reported to have been involved in a conversation with the group of Canadian players when things started to get heated.

According to the reports this all took place at 3 a.m. local time and eventually made its way outside the club. In the end, no punches were thrown (meaning Getzlaf didn't knock everyone out in three minutes) and everyone went home without any additional incident.

Team USA general maanger Brian Burke, who was the general manager of the 2007 Ducks team that won the Stanley Cup with Getzlaf, came to the forwards defense on Monday, telling Jones via email:
"I saw Getzy late Saturday night. I left for the airport between 4:30 and 4:45 a.m. from the hotel where we (Team USA) stayed, the same hotel as Team Canada, the Hotel Sokos Presidentii."

“Getzy was not intoxicated and was not with a woman. We had a brief and pleasant conversation and then I headed to the airport.

“I don't know what happened early that night. I know what happened at 4:30 a.m. or so.”
Both players were in the lineup for Canada on Monday against France, a game that had the result that should be expected when the two countries meet on the ice. Canada won 7-2.

Perry had a goal and an assist in the rout, while Getzlaf recorded an assist.
