The Rangers and Senators are really building up some bad blood and the series is only two games in.
Early in the game there was Matt Carkner of the Sens jumping Brian Boyle by the boards and getting a game misconduct. It will be shocking if he doesn't get suspended. Then in the second period Carl Hagelin might have earned himself a call from league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan too.
With venerable Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson playing the puck in the corner boards, Hagelin came flying in to lay a check on Alfie, but he came in high. As has become part of our hockey vocabulary this season, the principal point of contact appeared to be the head.
Alfredsson was shaken up on the play and headed back to the clubhouse. He didn't return in the game.
Go back to an earlier meeting this season between the Sens and Rangers in MSG. Then-Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski swiped Alfredsson's head and left him concussed. Wolski wasn't suspended for the hit. The Senators were very, very unhappy with the ruling.
Seeing as though it's the playoffs and the litmus test for penalties goes up, it wouldn't surprise me if Hagelin avoids the Shanahammer for this hit. Then again, there is a hearing scheduled, which isn't a good sign for Hagelin.
Carl Hagelin will have hearing tomorrow afternoon for hit on Daniel Alfredsson. #NHL

It won't have the Senators very pleased if goes down that Hagelin isn't suspended, of course, and the nastiness we saw early in Game 2 could very well be repeated in Game 3. Well, that could happen either way. Not sure everybody say this as being the most tense series out there, but it's getting that way.
But more important right now is the condition of Alfredsson. If he's out for an extended time with a concussion that's a major blow to the Senators, obviously.
