One of my favorite things about going to minor-league hockey games growing up was the annual St. Patrick's Day game. Every year my local team was home on March 17 and every year they wore green jerseys and sold green beer. While I wasn't old enough to enjoy the beer, I always did enjoy the jerseys.
It's a popular thing to make things green on St. Patrick's Day -- or on the weekend near St. Patrick's Day. They are gimmicky and can be given away for charity purposes after their once use. It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.
Especially with the how the Dallas Stars are doing it.
The Stars, already with green in their color scheme, are taking their Irish-themed warmup sweater to an all-out level, giving everybody Irish names on their Irish sweaters. They will be worn for the pregame skate on Friday night.
Some of them are gems. McRibs for Mike Ribeiro ? That's just terrific. Homer Simpson approves. Steve Ott's nickname? O'Daddy. Oh boy. Can't forget Sheldon Souray's O'Hammer.
And if you just have to have one of these, they will be available for auction which you can bid in here.
