This week while the NHL lockout moves from the conference room to the courtroom, there will be another small taste of what this sport we're fussing so much over is all about. It's called hockey, and it will be played in Toronto on Wednesday.
Specifically, a handful of players will gather for another charity game, this one to benefit grassroot hockey causes via the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund as well as the RBC Play Hockey program. There have been a slew of charity games played in the past few weeks, perhaps the most notable taking place in Atlantic City, NJ, to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Dare we say that the best thing to come from the lockout has been these types of charitable games? It's certainly up on a short list of positives.
But while the charity is all well and good -- seriously, not trying to demean the philanthropic efforts -- we're excited about hockey and seeing actual NHLers on the ice together again. Remember, they do actually play a game to raise that money for charity. One team will be captained by Lightning forward and scoring ace Steven Stamkos while the other will be led by burgeoning television star and Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban.
Here are the rosters for the game:
