Mike Weber: Joining coaching ranks
Weber will take on a coaching role with OHL Windsor following his retirement from professional hockey, Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News reports.
Weber started the 2017-18 campaign with Frolunda HC of the Swedish league, but opted to hang up his skates. Drafted by the Sabres in the second round of the 2006 NHL Draft, the Pittsburgh native spent parts of nine seasons with Buffalo -- along with a brief stop in Washington -- and played in 351 NHL games. In those contests, the defenseman notched nine goals, 44 helpers and 437 PIM. The 30-year-old returns to the Spitfires, with whom he played the bulk of his junior hockey.

Wild's Mike Weber: Receives two-way deal
Weber signed a two-way contract that will run for the rest of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, Micheal Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
The former Sabre has spent this season playing with Minnesota's AHL affiliate in Iowa, but by signing this contract, Weber is now eligible to be called up to Minnesota. Weber has never possessed much offensive ability, but he's a reliable defender who can provide the Wild with some depth and experience should they need it down the stretch and into the postseason. He'll first have to clear waivers for the contract to go into effect, but it's unlikely that any other franchise will make a claim for him.

Wild's Mike Weber: Signs with Minnesota
Weber signed an AHL deal with the Wild on Friday, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
The 2006 second-round draft pick could provide defensive depth for the Wild, should they become hampered by injuries. However, Weber's 53 points in 351 career NHL games aren't likely to turn any heads from a fantasy perspective.

Weber has been released by the Blues from his professional tryout.
The Blues had too many capable players on the blue line to roster Weber, and the team feels comfortable with its current stock of defensemen in the American Hockey League. It seems like Weber, a 28-year-old with 351 games of NHL experience, should land a job somewhere.

Blues' Mike Weber: Signs PTO with St. Louis
Weber inked a professional tryout agreement with the Blues on Wednesday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Washington will likely describe their acquisition of Weber at the trade deadline as a bust, when you consider he played in a paltry 10 contests and failed to log a single point. His best stat line while with the Caps was his 28 PIM and 35 hits. Never a high production player, he reached the 10-point mark just once in his career. The blueliner certainly has a chance to make the roster in St. Louis but should probably be left off fantasy lineups in the majority of league formats.

Capitals' Mike Weber: Will play Saturday
Weber will be in the lineup Saturday against the Blues, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
Head coach Barry Trotz indicated he wanted to get Weber some action in advance of Washington's playoff run. Given that the Blues are one of the league's more physical teams, it makes sense that the hard-nosed defenseman would get the call Saturday. He will take Nate Schmidt's place opposite Dmitry Orlov on the Capitals' third pairing.

Capitals' Mike Weber: Will not be suspended for boarding incident
Weber will not face a league hearing for his boarding penalty incurred in Sunday's 6-2 loss to Pittsburgh, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Weber was given a major penalty and ejected from the game after he boarded Penguins forward Bryan Rust midway through the third period. Though he plays with an edge, the Pittsburgh native has never been suspended during his eight-year career. With John Carlson (lower body) nearing a return to the lineup, Weber will struggle to get consistent playing time which severely limits his fantasy upside.

Capitals' Mike Weber: Will make Caps debut Tuesday
Weber (personal) will make his Caps debut Tuesday against the Penguins, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
The rugged defenseman was acquired on Feb. 23, but was given leave to return to Buffalo so he could be with his pregnant wife. He is expected to draw in on the third pair with Nate Schmidt. Weber has one goal and five points in 35 games this season, so this isn't big news for fantasy owners.

Capitals' Mike Weber: Yet to join the team
Weber will join the team in a couple of days following the birth of his child, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
The defenseman was acquired in a trade Tuesday, but remained in Buffalo awaiting the birth of his child. Now that the child has been born, it's expected that Weber will join the team in Chicago for a tilt with the Blackhawks on Sunday. The Caps will carry eight defensemen for the rest of the season, so it's a possibility that Weber will be a healthy scratch even if he's with the team Sunday.

Weber will miss Wednesday's matchup with Montreal for personal reasons, Mike Vogel of Monumental Network reports.
Weber, a long-time Sabre, will certainly have some growing pains in a new city, but has a chance to be on a playoff contender. Having broken the 10-point mark just once in his career, the veteran defenseman provides more value to the team than he does in terms of fantasy value. It is expected the 28-year-old will join Capitals on Friday and could suit up for the team's outing against Minnesota.

Weber was traded to Washington on Tuesday
The Capitals were rumored to be in the market for a depth defenseman and Weber certainly fits that description. The 6-foot-2, 217 pound blueliner was acquired for a third-round pick in the 2017 draft. With a deep defense in front of him, Weber is unlikely to get consistent playing time unless there's an injury and his fantasy upside is therefore quite limited. He has one goal, five points, and 32 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Sabres in 2015-16.
