Jets' Shawn Matthias: Stuck watching
Matthias has been unable to crack the Jets' lineup, instead spending game days in the press box.
Matthias has featured just twice since Jan. 12, a stretch of 42 games. Even when the center has been in action, it has been sparingly, as he averaged 11:10 of ice time in his 27 regular-season outings. Unsurprisingly, given his lack of play time, the 29-year-old was limited to a mere three points. With the emergence of young players like Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers (undisclosed) and Jack Roslovic, it's hard to imagine Winnipeg will bring back Matthias next season -- especially at his current $2.125 cap hit.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Barely sees ice
Matthias logged a mere 7:22 of ice time in his return from an upper-body injury against the Predators on Tuesday.
While Matthias did make a brief appearance on the power play (24 seconds), he should probably be considered a temporary stop gap to replace the late scratch of Paul Stastny (lower body). As such, the center is unlikely to play more than 10 minutes in any game the rest of the way and could find himself sitting down as a healthy scratch periodically.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Cleared to play
Matthias (upper body) has been given the green light to return to the lineup.
While he may be healthy enough to play, Matthias could still find himself watching from the press box as a healthy scratch in favor of Mark Dano. Considering the 29-year-old Matthias has just three points on the year, few fantasy owners will be languishing over whether he will be in the lineup versus the Predators on Tuesday. Those that are will likely have to wait until warmups to see if the Ontario native suits up.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Ditches non-contact sweater
Matthias (upper body) hit the ice Tuesday in a regular jersey, Mitchell Clinton of JetsTV reports.
Despite Matthias taking part in the game-day skate without limitations, coach Paul Maurice won't make any changes to the lineup ahead of Tuesday's clash with the Rangers, per Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun. Even once cleared to return -- and activated off injured reserve -- the 29-year-old could find ice time hard to come by, in part due to the emergence of Jack Roslovic.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Still working toward return
Matthias (upper body) continues to skate in his injury rehab, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Matthias, who's been sidelined since Jan. 12, remains on injured reserve for a Jets team that is a virtual lock to make the playoffs. This means the club can afford to be extra cautious with the brutish winger listed at 6-foot-4 and 231 pounds.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Looks to be status quo with injury
Matthias (upper body) was once again back on the ice ahead of practice Thursday, Brian Munz of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.
It doesn't appear that Matthias is making much progress given that he first stepped on the ice for a solo skate nine days ago, but perhaps there's more to the story than what's been reported. The low-end winger remains on injured reserve, where fantasy value goes to waste.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Takes first step
Matthias (upper body) skated prior to practice Tuesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Matthias won't be eligible to return until he can be cleared for contact and takes part in some practice sessions with the team. The winger has spent long stretches as a healthy scratch, which means there is no guarantee he is back in the lineup even once given the all-clear.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Placed on injured reserve
Matthias (upper body) was designated for injured reserve Wednesday.
The change in status does little to affect Matthias' recovery timeline, considering the team used a retroactive tag and can still bring him back as soon as he is cleared to play. It seems unlikely the Ontario native will be ready in time for Thursday's matchup with Anaheim, so fantasy owners can probably anticipate a post All-Star break return. Tucker Poolman was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Unavailable Tuesday
Matthias (upper body) will not be in the lineup against the Sharks, Brian Munz of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.
Matthias will miss his third outing due to his upper-body malady. A healthy scratch for much of the year, the natural center has been limited to just 25 games this season, in which he has tallied a mere three points, 23 shots and 20 hits. Even once given the green light, there is no guarantee the 29-year-old won't find himself in the press box more often than not.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Not suiting up Sunday
Matthias (upper body) won't participate in Sunday's tilt against Vancouver, Sara Orlesky of TSN reports.
This marks the third straight game that Matthias has missed, and his next chance to go will be Tuesday against San Jose. The 29-year-old has only posted three points (one goal, two assists) in 25 games this season, while Jack Roslovic and Marko Dano should continue to see extended looks on the fourth line in his absence.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Day-to-day ahead of Saturday
Coach Paul Maurice labeled Matthias (upper body) day-to-day ahead of Saturday's contest against the Flames, Mitchell Clinton of Jets TV reports.
Matthias' day-to-day status thus leaves him doubtful for Saturday's affair against the Flames, but we'll provide another update on his status if he's ultimately able to rejoin the action. Assuming he sits out, his next opportunity to return arrives Sunday when the team returns home to face the Canucks. The Jets may be forced to add another body from the AHL ranks for Saturday's game, or the club may roll with seven blueliners if Mattias can't go.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Unavailable Saturday
Matthias (upper body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota, Jets Insider Jamie Thomas reports.
Matthias' absence shouldn't impact any fantasy lineups, as he's only tallied one goal and three points in 25 contests this season, so he isn't a viable option in season-long or daily formats. With Matthias unavailable, Brendan Lemieux will draw into the lineup against the Wild.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Spending time in press box
Matthias was a healthy scratch for Sunday's 4-0 victory over St. Louis.
This was the seventh straight game Matthias has been scratched, and he's only posted two assists in 18 games this season. This certainly isn't new territory for the 29-year-old, as he only played in 45 games in 2016-17, and has struggled to find a consistent role throughout his time in Winnipeg. Matthias has been known for his size, intensity, and faceoff skills throughout his career, but he's well off the fantasy radar these days.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Expected to play Tuesday
Despite blocking a shot in practice, Matthias is slated to suit up versus Arizona on Tuesday, Brian Munz of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.
Considering Matthias has just two points in 16 outings -- which were scored during the same game -- few fantasy owners would be impacted by his exclusion from the lineup. Fortunately, the forward appears to be on track to play and isn't expected to miss any time. In the event the Ontario native is a late scratch, Marko Dano would slot into the Jets' fourth line.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Bags first two helpers in blowout victory
Matthias picked up his first two assists of the season in Sunday's win over the Penguins.
Matthias wont turn in many multi-point efforts this season, but it's good to see him involved in the offense. The third-liner has struggled to stay healthy in recent years and has caused nightmares for fantasy owners who drafted him in deeper formats. The fact the 29-year-old has never hit 30 points in a season tells you all you need to know about his fantasy relevance.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Cleared for camp
Matthias (shoulder) is ready to go for training camp and the 2017-18 campaign.
With the postseason all but out of reach, the decision was made in March for Matthias to have shoulder surgery in order to give him more time to get ready for the upcoming year. The 29-year-old will no doubt be hoping the injuries are behind him after logging just 45 outings in 2016-17. Even when healthy, the winger is a bottom-six grinder who's more likely to rack up hits and blocked shots than points.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Going under knife, out for season
Matthias will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the labrum in his shoulder, TSN's Brian Munz reports.
What an unfortunate end of the 2016-17 campaign for Matthias, who finishes with 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 45 games. The burly pivot has consistently been used on the penalty kill over the years, so that's where his absence should hurt the most.

Jets' Shawn Matthias: Ruled out Thursday
Matthias (upper body) will sit out Thursday's game against the Islanders, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
The first-year Jet missed the team's most recent game, a 5-4 loss to Nashville on Monday. Matthias has struggled with injuries this season, missing 26 games, but he has a respectable eight goals in 45 games as a bottom-six forward. In Matthias' absence, Nic Petan will enter the lineup and center Winnipeg's fourth line.
