  • Jonathan Ericsson: Set for free agency

Ericsson won't be re-signed by the Red Wings, the team announced Sunday.

Considering Ericsson split time between the NHL and AHL last season while costing the team $4.25 million against the cap, it shouldn't come as a surprise the organization is going to move in a different direction. At 36 years of age, this could be the end of the line for Ericsson. If that's the case, he'll retire having played in 680 games, all for the Wings, in which he notched 27 goals, 98 helpers and 694 shots.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Pointless through hiatus

Ericsson hasn't recorded a point through 18 games this season.

Between getting waived, his subsequent trip to AHL Grand Rapids, and a facial injury that cost him a trip to injured reserve, Ericsson hasn't seen much time at the top level. The Swedish blueliner is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and with the league understandably at a standstill given the current events, it's quite possible Ericsson has already played his last game for Detroit.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Enters lineup Sunday

Ericsson will play in Sunday's game versus the Flames, NHL.com reports.

The Red Wings are holding Mike Green out with the trade deadline approaching, so Ericsson will get back into the lineup for the first time since Feb. 1. The 35-year-old Ericsson hasn't notched a point over 11 NHL games this year.

Detroit placed Ericsson on waivers Tuesday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Back from IR

Ericsson (face) was activated from injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

Ericsson has missed the last 11 games due to this injury, but he's been a healthy scratch often this year anyway. Although the veteran blueliner is healthy again, it wouldn't be surprising if he stays in the press box Tuesday versus the Islanders.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Lands on IR

Detroit placed Ericsson (face) on injured reserve Tuesday.

The Red Wings have a break in their schedule next week, so now that he's been placed on IR, Ericsson won't be eligible to return to the lineup until Dec. 28 against the Panthers. Either way, the veteran blueliner has gone scoreless while posting a minus-7 rating in nine games this campaign, so there's no reason for fantasy owners to track his status.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Questionable for Tuesday

Ericsson (nose) is considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports.

Ericsson took a stick to the nose in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Kings, so his status is uncertain for Tuesday's clash. If Ericsson plays, there's a good chance he wears a full mask for added protection. The veteran blueliner has zero points and a minus-7 rating over nine games.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Ruled out with undisclosed injury

Ericsson sustained an undisclosed injury versus Winnipeg on Thursday and won't be available for Saturday's clash with Montreal, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

With the Red Wings heading into a back-to-back, it seems likely that Ericsson will also be unavailable against the Kings on Sunday. The blueliner's absence will open the door for Dylan McIlrath or the recently recalled Madison Bowey to slot into the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Summoned to big club

The Red Wings recalled Ericsson from AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday.

Ericsson will get another chance with the big club, as he's already appeared in seven NHL games this season, going pointless while averaging 17:19 of ice time. It's unclear if the Swede will draw into the lineup right away, but his first chance to suit up will be in Monday's game against the Islanders.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Returned to minor-league affiliate

The Red Wings reassigned Ericsson to AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday.

Ericsson will likely continue to bounce between levels throughout the campaign as one of Detroit's go-to injury-replacement options, but he won't have any fantasy value in 2019-20.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Returns to big club

The Red Wings recalled Ericsson from AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

Ericsson missed the first chunk of the season due to an upper-body injury, and he was immediately sent to minors once healthy. The Red Wings have piled up injuries on the blue line, however, so the 35-year-old will get another shot with the big club. His rearrival in Detroit shouldn't concern fantasy owners, as Ericsson posted five points and a minus-10 rating over 52 games last year.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Cut loose by Detroit

The Red Wings placed Ericsson (upper body) on waivers Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Ericsson has yet to suit up this season due to an upper-body injury, but his placement on waivers suggests he's now healthy and ready to play. However, he's clearly not going to be a part of the Red Wings' plan for their blue-line corps in 2019-20, and can be ignored in all fantasy formats. He'll likely spend the rest of the campaign in the minors.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Still on IR

Ericsson (upper body), who's still on injured reserve, isn't in the projected lineup for Thursday's game against the Flames, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.

Ericsson has yet to play this season due to an upper-body injury and at this point there's no telling when he might be ready to make his debut. The 35-year-old vet will need to be activated off IR before joining the lineup, so expect another update on his status once that occurs.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Heads to IR

Ericsson (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Red Wings on Monday.

Ericsson has yet to make an appearance in the lineup through two games to start the season, and as evidenced by this news, will have his 2019-20 debut delayed further. He'll now need to sit out a minimum of a week, and in his stead, it's likely that Madison Bowey and Dennis Cholowski could see extended time in the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Won't play Saturday

Ericsson (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's road contest in Nashville, NHL.com's Robby Stanley reports.

The veteran defenseman skated on his own Tuesday but still isn't practicing with the team, so a return doesn't appear to be imminent for Ericsson, who continues to be hampered by an undisclosed injury. He could return for Detroit's home opener Sunday, but that seems unlikely at this point.

  • Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson: Gets some skating in

Ericsson (undisclosed) skated Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

While it's good to see the veteran defenseman back on the ice, the Wings likely need to see him log at least one full practice before declaring him fit to play in a game. Detroit opens the new campaign on the road against Nashville on Saturday, which affords Ericsson some extra time to recover.
