Martin Hanzal: Announces retirement
Hanzal will hang up his skates and call it a career, Arizona Coyotes Insider Craig Morgan reports.
Hanzal played in just seven games back in 2018-19 for the Stars due to a back issue and will now officially end his career after spending last year on long-term injured reserve. Over the course of his 12-year career, Hanzel appeared in 673 games, the bulk of which were with the Coyotes, in which he garnered 127 goals and 211 helpers.

The 33-year-old center enjoyed a 12-year NHL career primarily with the Coyotes before stops in Minnesota and Dallas. Stars' Martin Hanzal: Not expected to play in 2019-20
The Stars don't expect Hanzal (back) to play this season, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Unfortunately this news doesn't come as a surprise, as multiple injuries, including a serious back issue, have limited Hanzal to just 45 games over the past two campaigns. The veteran forward is in the final year of his three-year contract with the Stars, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him announce his retirement at the end of the season.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Begins campaign on IR
Hanzal (back) was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
Hanzal has not suited up for the Stars since Dcember of 2018, and he will begin the new season on IR as well. The 32-year-old center is not close to resuming hockey activities at this time.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Shifts to long-term IR
Hanzal (back) was added to long-term injured reserve Saturday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
The Czech pivot has only suited up in seven games this season -- none of which have come in 2019 -- and doesn't seem to be nearing a return anytime soon. Hanzal's move to long-term injured reserve means his $4.75 million salary no longer counts against the cap.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Placed on IR
Hanzal (back) has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Dec. 23.
Hanzal's placement on injured reserve effectively rules him out for Saturday's contest against the Red Wings. The veteran pivot will be eligible to return whenever he's deemed healthy enough to do so, though his back injury is likely a recurrence of the issue that forced him to miss the first two months of the season.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Still dealing with back issue
Hanzal (back) has been ruled out versus the Predators on Thursday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
The news on Hanzal certainly isn't encouraging, as he may be forced to slide in and out of the lineup the rest of the way in order to play through his back problems. If the Stars find themselves out of the playoff race at any point, don't be surprised to see the veteran shut down for the remainder of the year.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Out for rest of game
Hanzal won't return to Sunday's game versus the Islanders after suffering an upper-body injury, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Hanzal struggled with a back injury to begin the year and has only suited up for seven games -- all in December. The true nature of his injury is unclear, and he could benefit from the holiday break, as the Stars don't play again until Thursday versus the Predators.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Joining lineup Sunday
Hanzal (back) will black Sunday against the Islanders, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Hanzal returned from offseason back surgery on Dec. 7 and has missed two games since then as a way to lighten his workload. In six games, the 31-year-old has recorded one goal and two points.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Won't play Saturday
Hanzal is dealing with a sore back and will miss Saturday's clash with Minnesota, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Hanzal will likely be rested periodically throughout the season, as he continues to progress from offseason back surgery. Jason Spezza (illness) figures to slot into the spot being vacated by Hanzal, while the team is optimistic it will have the Czech in the lineup versus the Islanders on Sunday.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Will be rested Thursday
Hanzal will be a healthy scratch for Thursday night's game against the Sharks, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Hanzal, who missed the first 28 games due to a back injury, isn't dealing with any type of setback, but the Stars are playing for the second time in as many days and understandably don't want to tax the veteran center. Look for Hanzal to return Saturday for a road clash with the Avalanche.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Team wins in his return
Hanzal (back) made his season debut and recorded 12:12 of ice time against the Sharks on Friday, adding a single shot, hit and blocked shot in a 3-2 home victory.
The oft-injured pivot required offseason spinal surgery, which kept him off the ice for the first 29 games. Drafted 17th overall by the Coyotes in 2005, Hanzal has transformed from a cant-miss offensive producer to a more well-rounded special teams contributor. Still, it could take some time for first-year Stars coach Jim Montgomery to determine just how much rink run Hanzal should get after such a long layoff due to his injury.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Activated off IR
Hanzal (back) is no longer listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.
Hanzal will thus make his season debut Friday, skating on the Stars' second line and second power-play unit against the Sharks. The 31-year-old forward only totaled five goals and 10 points in 38 appearances last season, so we recommend taking a wait-and-see approach with him for fantasy purposes.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Cleared to play
Hanzal (back) has been cleared to return to game action, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Hanzal will have to be activated off long-term injured reserve before returning to the lineup, but that could happen in advance of Friday's matchup with the Sharks. The veteran forward only notched five goals and 10 points in 38 appearances last season, so it's probably best to take a wait-and-see approach with him for fantasy purposes.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Joins team in travels
Hanzal (back) traveled with the Stars for a four-game road trip that begins in Edmonton on Saturday, but Mike Heika of the Stars' official site writes that the veteran center is "probably a couple of weeks away" from his return.
Hanzal has been limited to 38 games since the start of the 2017-18 campaign and he's currently on long-term injured reserve.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Placed on LTIR
The Stars placed Hanzal (back) on long-term injured reserve Saturday, Cap Friendly reports.
Hanzal is still on track to return in early December, but putting him on LTIR will afford the Stars some financial flexibility. The veteran forward will likely slot into a bottom-six role once he's cleared to play.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Expected to miss another month
Hanzal (back) is not expected to return for at least one more month, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Hanzal -- who underwent spinal fusion surgery in March -- was originally given a broad 6-7 month timeframe to recover. The center has been skating by himself prior to team practices and continues to work on his recovery, but likely won't be available until the start of December.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: Designated for IR
Hanzal (back) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Hanzal has been limited to 109 games over the past three seasons, skipping around to three different teams over that span. The first-round pick (17th overall to the Coyotes in 2005) is not worth drafting given his extensive injury history and the relative amount of depth at the forward position.

Stars' Martin Hanzal: On track in recovery
Hanzal (back) is scheduled to return in late November or early December, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
The Stars have reported no setbacks in Hanzal's recovery from back surgery. He was limited to 38 games last season and wound up starting a career-high 66.3 percent of his even-strength shifts in the defensive zone, but the Stars have since hired a new bench boss in Jim Montgomery. There's a real chance that Hanzal is better positioned for fantasy success in 2018-19.
