  • Predators' Cody McLeod: No more Nashville reunions

McLeod won't be retained by Nashville in free agency, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports.

There's a good chance the aging enforcer has played his last NHL game, as McLeod's skill set simply isn't valued in today's NHL. He turns 35 later this month and was held to a single point in 38 games between the Rangers and Predators last season, adding 67 PIM.

  • Predators' Cody McLeod: Riding pine

McLeod has been a healthy scratch in 13 of 20 games -- and eight of the last nine -- since joining the Predators via trade in February.

McLeod has just a single goal in 38 combined games with the Rangers and Predators this season, and he's averaging a paltry 6:29 in ice time -- the lowest TOI of his career. Unfortunately for McLeod, his toughness and willingness to drop the gloves are no longer in demand in the NHL, as there has been a shift in the past few seasons towards skill and speed -- two attributes which McLeod sorely lacks. Unless the Preds run into injury trouble, he is unlikely to see any significant ice time down the stretch and into the playoffs, and you likely will not see him back with the team next season.

  • Predators' Cody McLeod: Moving back to Nashville

The Rangers have sent McLeod back to the Predators in exchange for a 2020 seventh-round pick, Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger of TSN report.

McLeod spent two seasons (2016-18) in Nashville, adding seven points and 155 hits over a 54-game span. While he's strictly a fourth-line grinder in charge of knocking opponents off the puck, McLeod should benefit from the move back to a contending team, especially when it's time for him to be unleashed during the playoffs.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Two hits in loss

McLeod dished out two hits in Tuesday's loss to the Flyers.

McLeod has now gone 13 straight games without a point, but he's compiled 40 hits in that span. Averaging just 7:14 in that span, he's not a worthy fantasy option, though his physical presence keeps makes him a lineup fixture.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Ascends from IR

McLeod (hand) was activated from injured reserve and is expected to play Saturday versus the Predators, per the NHL's official media site.

McLeod has missed the last 14 games, and he'll return to the Rangers' bottom six. The 34-year-old works mainly as a physical threat with just one goal in 16 games, but he has added 54 hits and 42 PIM in that span.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Could play Saturday

McLeod (hand) is day-to-day with his injury, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports.

This effectively rules out McLeod for Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets, but the team reportedly is holding out hope that he'll be able to give it a go against host Nashville on Saturday. He's the resident tough guy in a league that has a limited number of enforcers these days.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Still 2-3 weeks away

McLeod (hand) is expected to miss at least 2-3 more weeks before returning to the lineup, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

McLeod has already been out of action since Nov. 21 (a stretch of eight games) and now appears set to miss the remainder of 2018. Even once cleared to return to action, the winger could be hard-pressed to crack the lineup given the team's forward depth and the emergence of Filip Chytil and Brett Howden.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Lands on injured reserve

McLeod (hand) was designated for injured reserve Wednesday, per the NHL media site.

Considering McLeod is dealing with a fractured hand and isn't expected to be back until mid-December, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him on IR. The winger notched his first point of the season in his last game, but otherwise has been a non-factor offensively this season.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Out long term

McLeod could be sidelined 4-6 weeks due to a fractured hand suffered Wednesday against the Islanders, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.

McLeod fractured his hand during a fight with Islanders defenseman, Ross Johnston. While disappointing for both player and team, the injury itself does little to alter the fantasy landscape. For his career, the bruising forward has averaged just 0.17 points per game and therefore can be ignored in virtually all formats regardless of health.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Will not return

McLeod (hand) left Wednesday's game and will not return.

The physical forward hurt his hand in a fight with Islanders defenseman, Ross Johnston. Prior to departing Wednesday's contest, McLeod scored his first goal of the season, which was also his first point of 2018-19.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Dealing with fractured hand

McLeod fractured his hand in Wednesday's win over the Islanders, the New York Rangers' official twitter reports.

McLeod will likely miss at least a few weeks with the injury. He brought toughness to the lineup, but not much in terms of scoring contributions, though he did score his first goal in a Rangers uniform prior to exiting Wednesday.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Gets 16 PIM on one sequence

McLeod racked up 16 PIM in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens.

All of McLeod's PIM came on a second-period sequence that started with Montreal's Max Domi taking a run at Rangers youngster Filip Chytil. McLeod responded by laying a big hit on one of Domi's teammates, causing a fracas that ultimately led to two minutes for charging, four minutes for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct for the enforcer. New York killed off the ensuing four-minute Montreal power play and proceeded to score four unanswered goals. McLeod's yet to crack double-digit minutes in a game this season, but his willingness to mix it up could benefit owners in search of single-category help in PIM.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Healthy scratch versus Caps

McLeod will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's road game versus the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

McLeod played just over five minutes Tuesday night against his former club. With just two appearances so far in 2018-19, the 34-year-old veteran carries little fantasy value and should be ignored in all formats.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Two appearances through six games

McLeod made his second appearance of the season Tuesday, skating an uneventful 5:03 in a 3-2 shootout win over Colorado.

McLeod is New York's 13th forward, only drawing in against more physical opponents. He's skated fewer than six minutes in each of his appearances this season, so the 34-year-old enforcer's fantasy value is nonexistent unless it's the last day of your head-to-head matchup and you're hoping for a PIM boost.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Playing against Devils

McLeod (abdomen) will play against the Devils in Monday's preseason contest, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports.

Whether or not McLeod plays won't really impact fantasy players. The veteran wing racks up penalty minutes and hits, but not much else. He's really just there to give the Rangers a physical presence on their fourth line.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Signs one-year pact

McLeod (abdomen) put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Rangers on Thursday.

McLeod was snagged off waivers by New York last season and went on to play 25 games with the club, in which he secured a pair of assists, 39 PIM and 76 hits. The winger won't offer much in terms of offensive production, but his physicality should help him earn a fourth-line spot in the lineup.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Dealing with abdominal strain

McLeod (abdomen) won't be available for Thursday's game against the Islanders, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

The Rangers only have one game remaining after Thursday's contest, so it's quite possible McLeod will have to wait until next season for his next opportunity to taste game action. If that ends up being the case, the upcoming unrestricted free agent will finish the campaign having totaled just one goal and four points in 48 contests split between the Predators and Rangers.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Bringing physicality in limited minutes

McLeod dished out four hits in a team-low 8:48 of ice time during Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Flyers.

Physicality is the name of McLeod's game, as evidenced by his 109 PIM and 127 hits in just 45 appearances this season. While those totals are impressive, there are better sources for production in those categories than a guy who has scored just four points this season while failing to crack double-digit minutes in any of his past 11 appearances.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Throws body around in Rangers debut

McLeod dished out a game-high eight hits in his Rangers debut Thursday against Toronto. Unfortunately for him, New York lost the game, 4-0.

Physicality is the name of McLeod's game, and he brought that in spades despite seeing just 12:12 of ice time. However, the veteran winger's career average of .17 points per game suggests he won't do much to address the team's recent scoring woes.

  • Rangers' Cody McLeod: Scooped off waivers by Rangers

McLeod was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

The Predators waived McLeod on Wednesday, as they're anticipating the return of Filip Forsberg (hand), a star winger who is far more valuable than the physical McLeod. The 11th-year winger's game would have fit better in the earlier part of the decade, when most teams had at least one designated enforcer. McLeod has amassed 1,524 PIM through 713 games between the Avalanche and Predators, albeit with only 124 points.
