Jonas Hiller: Calls it a career
Hiller announced his retirement Monday.
Hiller logged nine seasons in the NHL split between the Ducks and Flames before returning to his native Switzerland for the final four years of his playing career. The 38-year-old netminder will retire having posted a 197-149-37 record while registering a 2.55 GAA and .914 save percentage in 404 career NHL appearances.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Inks deal with Swiss club
Hiller signed a three-year contract Tuesday to play in Switzerland for EHC Biel, Sportsnet reports.
Hiller, who would've been an unrestricted free agent this summer, just completed the second year of a $9 million deal with the Flames, which proved to be a real money burner, as the netminder finished 2015-16 with an atrocious 3.51 GAA and .879 save percentage. He also had a losing record at 9-11-1. The awful year came as a surprise, since Hiller won 26 games thanks to a 2.36 GAA and .918 save mark in the previous campaign, his first go-around with the Flames after seven seasons with the Ducks. Still, at this juncture, the 34-year-old should be more comfortable returning to his native land to stop pucks. One would think the one-time NHL All-Star's career is over, but we'll see how he fares in the Swiss league before jumping to that conclusion.

Jonas Hiller: Will not be back in Calgary
Calgary general manager Brad Treliving has told Hiller the Flames will not bring him back next season, Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun reports.
Hiller had an awful season with a 3.51 GAA and .879 save percentage. A team will likely sign him as a backup, but he certainly didn't make a case in 2015-16 for being an every-day starter.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Pulled on historic night for old team
Hiller was pulled after giving up three goals on five shots in just 6:51 of ice time in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to Anaheim.
At least the beatdown wasn't all Hiller's fault, as the Ducks managed to shell Niklas Backstrom for five more tallies before the night was through. This was Anaheim's franchise-record 23rd straight home win against the Flames, so expectations shouldn't have been very high to begin with.

Hiller will draw the start in Wednesday's game against the Ducks, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Hiller's last action came March 21 against the Maple Leafs, followed by three games off. The Flames continue to roster three goaltenders, and none have separated himself enough to be worthy of a workhorse role. The Swiss veteran will look to turn around an atrocious start to March (4.05 GAA, .862 save percentage) Wednesday, but faces a tough matchup against a Ducks club that's scored on him nine times over two games this season. it may be best to avoid him in both season-long and daily leagues despite the limited slate.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Extends losing streak
Hiller stopped 21 of 24 shots in Monday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
The final score ended up looking a bit more lopsided, as Toronto tacked on a pair of empty-net goals, but it was still enough to move Hiller to 1-7-0 in his last eight starts. The 34-year-old has given up at least three goals in all seven of the losses in that span and is having by far the worst campaign of his career.

Hiller is slated to start Monday's game against the Maple Leafs, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Hiller -- whose last start was on March 3 -- gets the nod for the Flames on Monday, while Niklas Backstrom will start both Sunday against Montreal and Thursday against Minnesota. Over his last three starts for the Flames, Hiller has given up 14 goals, and while Toronto occupies the bottom of the NHL's standings, the Leafs have won three of their last four games.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Perpetuates brutal season
Hiller's awful 2015-16 campaign continued in kind Thursday, as he allowed five goals on 34 shots during a 6-3 loss in Buffalo.
That's three consecutive losses for Hiller, a period in which he's given up 14 goals; going back farther, he's allowed a painful 26 goals in his last seven outings. There's not a goalie in the league who's been worse than Hiller -- among qualifiers, he's dead last in both GAA and save percentage, and it isn't particularly close. Don't touch him in fantasy -- not even with a 10-foot pole duct taped to another 10-foot pole. Even in the friendliest-seeming matchups, Hiller can't be trusted.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Defending net Thursday
Hiller will be rolled out between the pipes Thursday for a road start against the Sabres, Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.
Calgary has virtually no chance of making the playoffs, which leaves Flames fans clamoring for 24-year-old Joni Ortio to defend the twine and pick up more experience. Besides, Hiller owns a 3.31 GAA on the road this season, so it's not like he has the advantage in that area. Hiller will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after commanding $4.5 million annually between 2014-16.

Hiller had yielded the net the last three games to Joni Ortio, but it appears he will get a chance Monday. The veteran has struggled as of late, recording just one win in his last five starts and allowing at least four goals in each of those losses. The way Calgary is playing makes it difficult to recommend Hiller or whoever is manning the team's net.

A strong showing from Hiller, who rebounded after giving up four goals in each of his last three appearances. The 34-year-old advances to 9-7-2 on the season with a .889 save percentage. Hiller isn't a great fantasy option while Karri Ramo (lower body) remains sidelined, but a good showing Friday was definitely a step in the right direction. Hiller is currently the starter in Calgary, so if the Flames can gain some momentum after snapping their three-game losing streak, Hiller could be worth looking at in some deeper leagues.

Hiller will be in goal for Friday's game against Vancouver, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgary reports.
The Flames are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to their goaltending situation. Karri Ramo, who was sent to the minors early on in the season, went down for the year with an ACL injury on Feb. 11 while in the midst of providing Calgary with some solid play in net. Now, the Flames are stuck with Hiller, who's allowed four goals in each of the three games since Ramo's injury, and Joni Ortio, who head coach Bob Hartley clearly doesn't trust. Even with a favorable matchup against the Canucks (29th in scoring), utilizing Hiller in any fantasy format is taking a huge gamble.

Flames' Jonas Hiller: Struggles again in loss
Hiller surrendered four goals on just 23 shots in Wednesday's loss to the Wild, dropping to 8-7-1 on the season.
Hiller is struggling to hold down the fort in the absence of Karri Ramo (lower body), having allowed four goals in each of his last three appearances. The Flames may continue to turn to the Swiss veteran for lack of a better alternative, but it'll be hard to trust him until he shows signs of turning things around. If a Wild squad that had dropped 8-of-9 coming in gave Hiller this much trouble, it's hard to imagine how he'll fare against a hot team.
