Jeremy Smith: Bound for Russia
Smith inked a two-year contract with Kunlun Red Star (KHL) on Monday.
Smith -- who was selected by the Predators with the 54th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft -- will try his hand overseas after failing to break into the NHL the past two seasons. All of the netminder's NHL outings came back in 2016-17, when he made 10 appearances for the Avalanche, in which he went 1-6-1 with a 3.54 GAA. At this point, it's probably safe to assume the 30-year-old will close out his career in Europe.

Islanders' Jeremy Smith: Demoted to minors
Smith was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Saturday.
Smith signed a two-way contract with the Islanders on Feb. 24. The Michigan native seemingly won't be joining the team for their postseason run, as he hasn't logged any NHL ice time since the 2016-17 campaign.

Islanders' Jeremy Smith: Inks deal for rest of year
Smith signed a two-way contract with the Islanders for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
Smith was drafted in the second round by the Predators in the 2007 NHL Draft, but he first tasted NHL action in the 2016-17 season with the Avalanche, making 10 appearances and posting an .888 save percentage. Instead, he's been a minor-league guy for the last 10 seasons. During this campaign, he's posted a .900 save percentage and 16-9-1 record with AHL Bridgeport. The new contract allows the Islanders to recall Smith at any point, providing them depth in case either Robin Lehner or Thomas Greiss gets hurt.

Hurricanes' Jeremy Smith: Placed on waivers
Smith was placed on waivers Thursday for the purpose of reassignment, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Smith's demotion to the minors was only a matter of time, as the 'Canes have both Scott Darling and Cam Ward under contract as their goaltending tandem. The 28-year-old Smith did suit up in 10 NHL contests for the Avalanche last season, putting up decent results (5-8-1 with a 2.57 GAA and .911 save percentage) when you take his team context into account. Unless Carolina trades away Ward prior to the deadline -- or the injury bug bites -- Smith will spend most or all of the year with AHL Charlotte.

Hurricanes' Jeremy Smith: Making preseason start
Smith will tend goal for Monday's preseason contest with Buffalo, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Monday will be Smith's first appearance in a Carolina uniform, though the 28-year-old has suited up for five other organizations in eight seasons prior. Smith struggled mightily in the first 10 NHL games of his career with Colorado last season, but is a proven AHL goaltender and will provide organizational depth.

Smith signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes on Saturday.
It was a rough first stint in the NHL for Smith, as he posted a 1-6-1 record, .888 save percentage and 3.54 GAA -- not that it's easy to be a backstop in Colorado. As long as Scott Darling and Cam Ward are protecting the crease in Carolina, the 28-year old will likely play close to a full season for AHL Charlotte.

Avalanche's Jeremy Smith: Much busier in shootout loss
Smith stopped 42 of 45 shots in Saturday's shootout loss to the Stars.
Smith was far busier than opposing netminder Kari Lehtonen, and if one of his teammates had scored in the shootout, he may have come away with a victory. The 27-year-old closes out the season with two solid appearances, but his .888 save percentage puts some uncertainty around his future. Smith showed what he's capable of in Saturday's loss, but we'll need to see more of that from him at the NHL level before we put any stock in his fantasy value.

Avalanche's Jeremy Smith: Gets the nod Saturday
Smith will be in goal Saturday in Dallas, Rick Sadowski of NHL.com reports.
Colorado has back-to-back games to finish off the season, meaning Smith will play Saturday and watch Calvin Pickard in net Sunday. Smith has only made three appearances in the past month, recording a horrid .838 save percentage coupled with a 4.77 GAA. This start will be a good opportunity to show he has potential in the long term, but fantasy owners should steer clear for now.

Smith seemed to be headed for his second career win when his team jumped out to a 4-2 lead through two periods, but five unanswered Oilers goals in the final frame squashed those dreams. The backup goalie for the last-place Avalanche carries nearly no fantasy value and has posted a save percentage below .900 in five of seven starts.

Smith will get his second start in the Avs' last three games, which is likely the result of the organization trying to figure out what it has in the 27-year-old. Colorado's season is all but over, and with Calvin Pickard continuing to struggle, it make sense that team brass would want to give Smith a look, considering that he'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.

It sure was a tough night for Smith, who was burned for five goals in the third period as Chicago rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Avalanche 6-3. The 27-year-old has managed just one win in seven appearances with Colorado this season, posting an .890 save percentage. With Colorado eliminated from playoff contention, it's hard to see much fantasy value in Smith down the final stretch, so even when starter Calvin Pickard does get the night off, there are likely better options out there.

Smith will start for the first time in six games and perhaps for good reason -- the rookie keeper has not allowed fewer than three goals in any of the five games he has started this season and has just one win to show for it. He's not a recommended play in the vast majority of formats and especially not against a red-hot Blackhawks team that has won its last four games.

Although current starter Calvin Pickard was pulled in his last outing, Smith remains stapled to a backup role and hasn't shown anything to indicate he's worth looking at in fantasy -- especially when you consider the team's position in the standings.

Smith was summoned midway through the second period after starter Calvin Pickard yielded five goals on 20 shots. The Avalanche are in action Sunday against the Blues. While it isn't official, it would not be shocking to see Smith draw the home start after Pickard laid an egg on the road. The Colorado goalie is a poor fantasy option regardless.

Avalanche's Jeremy Smith: Back in goal Tuesday
Smith will draw his third consecutive start Tuesday when the Avalanche take on the Flyers, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Smith has allowed three goals in each of his last three starts, but that's actually not terrible, considering the sieve of a defense in front of him -- over those three starts, Smith has faced an astounding 105 shots, including 40 in his NHL debut on Feb. 14. He'll look for his second win in a row against an ice-cold Philadelphia offense that currently ranks last in the NHL with 1.60 goals per game in February.

Avalanche's Jeremy Smith: Makes 34 saves for first NHL win
Smith stopped 34 of 37 shots for his first career NHL victory Saturday against the Sabres.
While the 27-year-old has given up three goals in all three of his appearances thus far, he was finally able to come away with a victory Saturday. He won't see much crease time behind Calvin Pickard, but Smith showed flashes of brilliance in the AHL and could be a decent spot start in some leagues whenever he gets the nod.

Smith gave up three goals on 28 shots during Thursday's 4-2 loss in Nashville.
It looked for a while like the Avs might have something cooking in this one ... until Smith got burned twice by Filip Forsberg, turning a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 deficit. Of course, that's been the story of Colorado's season. Don't count on Smith to see too many starts behind Calvin Pickard down the stretch, and even when he does, he'll be a risky fantasy play.
