Patrik Berglund: Signs overseas
Berglund agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Swedish club Djurgardens IF on Tuesday.
Berglund had a failing out with the Sabres last season after he was suspended indefinitely for failure to report and then placed on unconditional waivers. The Swede notched four points in 23 games prior to the incident and was averaging a mere 13:03 of ice time, the lowest of his NHL career. The 30-year-old will remain in his native Sweden for the 2019-20 campaign and may have played his final game in the NHL.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Placed on waivers
The Sabres placed Berglund (suspension) on unconditional waivers Wednesday with the intention of terminating his deal.
Although the team isn't releasing any more details regarding the situation, Berglund was saddled with an indefinite suspension by the Sabres after he didn't report to the club following his two-game absence due to illness. It's unclear exactly what caused the situation, or if he was even sick in the first place, but the veteran pivot has presumably ended his time in Buffalo after just 23 games, having recorded just four points -- two goals and two assists -- over that span. If he goes unclaimed, Berglund will become a free agent.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Suspended indefinitely
Berglund (illness) is facing an indefinite suspension from the NHL for failing to report to the Sabres.
Berglund apparently was dealing with an illness and missed the last two games, but the Swede getting saddled with an indefinite suspension for failure to report comes as a surprise. The Sabres, who are preparing for Saturday's road game against the Capitals, are not elaborating on the situation at this time, but we suspect local reporters will dig up the details sooner than later.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Won't play Thursday
Berglund (illness) will remain out of the lineup against the Coyotes on Thursday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Berglund will miss his second straight outing due to illness, as coach Phil Housley sticks with the same lineup that took home a 4-3 victory over Los Angeles on Tuesday. Even when healthy, the center could struggle for regular minutes following the acquisition of Remi Elie off the waiver wire in October.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Unavailable against Kings
Berglund is under the weather and won't suit up versus Los Angeles on Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Berglund is pointless in his previous 10 outings while averaging 12:59 of ice time. The center's absence from the scoresheet could cause him to miss the 20-point mark for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign, when he was limited to just 42 games due to injury. In the 30-year-old's stead, Zemgus Girgenson will slot into a fourth-line role.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Activated off injured reserve
Berglund (upper body) was taken off injured reserve ahead of Friday's matchup with Florida, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Berglund -- who missed the last five games due to his upper-body issue -- figures to slot into the lineup right away, with Remi Elie the most likely candidate to be relegated to the press box. In order to make room for the Swedish center, the Sabres put Conor Sheary (upper body) on IR.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Lands on injured reserve
Berglund (upper body) was designated for injured reserve, per the official NHL media site.
While the team has not provided a timeline or specifics regarding Berglund's upper-body issue, the fact that he has been placed on injured reserve means he will miss a minimum of the next three contests. Evan Rodrigues figures to see the bulk of the minutes in Berglund's absence.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Dealing with upper-body injury
Berglund will not be in the lineup against the Flyers on Wednesday due to an upper-body issue.
Berglund -- who will be replaced by Evan Rodrigues versus Philadelphia -- is currently stuck in a six-game pointless streak in which he has put a mere three shots on goal. The team is expected to reevaluate the Swede on Wednesday in order to determine how long he might be out of action.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Back in lineup
Berglund will return for Friday's game in Winnipeg.
After being a healthy scratch last game, Berglund will center Buffalo's third line, and he will also get a chance on the top power-play unit. He had primarily been used on the fourth line, so this gives him much more fantasy appeal than before. If he can prove he belongs there, it might not be too late to turn his season around.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Healthy scratched
Berglund sat in the press box during Tuesday's contest against Tampa Bay.
This is the second time Berglund has been a healthy scratch for the Sabres. He's had a rough start in Buffalo, posting just four points in 16 games. He started out as the No. 2 center, but quickly got relegated to fourth-line duties. Berglund scored 17 goals in 57 games last year for St. Louis, a pace of 24 goals in a full season. He'll have his work cut out for him if he's to come anywhere near that total this time around.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Not playing Thursday
Berglund will be scratched from Thursday's game against the Sharks, Mike Harrington of TBN Sports reports.
With Berglund out, Remi Elie is stepping into the lineup. Berglund has gotten off to a slow start in his first season with the Sabres, as he has one assist and three shots through six games. The 30-year-old center's next chance to play will be Saturday against the Kings.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Deposits goal in Sabres debut
Berglund registered a goal in Monday's 4-1 preseason road win over the Blue Jackets.
Acquired in the Ryan O'Reilly deal when the free-agency signing period opened this summer, it didn't take long for Berglund to make an impact with his new club. He opened the scoring in this preseason contest and wound up with 17:51 of ice time, including 1:24 on the power play. Berglund will be hard-pressed to see man-advantage ice time during the regular season, but an injury to a top-six forward -- namely Jack Eichel or Casey Mittelstadt -- could always change those plans.

Sabres' Patrik Berglund: Shuffling off to Buffalo
Berglund was traded alongside Tage Thompson, Vladamir Sobotka, a 2019 first-round pick and a 2021 second-round pick to the Sabres for Ryan O'Reilly on Sunday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.
The Blues dealt quantity for quality in this one, with a few pieces -- like Berglund -- heading north in exchange for a top-six forward in O'Reilly. Berglund is, admittedly, the least interesting part of the return for the Sabres. The 30-year-old had 17 goals in 57 games last year, but he only had nine assists. Playmaking has never been the Swede's strong suit, and that's not likely to change with Buffalo. There is less talent on the Sabres so there could be a good role for Berglund, unless they decide to go with a youth movement.

Blues' Patrik Berglund: Turns season around at end
Berglund accrued 17 goals and 26 points in 57 games this season.
Berglund missed the first 24 games since he was rehabbing a shoulder injury, and he came out of the gates sluggishly. In the first 40 games, the 29-year-old compiled just eight goals and six helpers, which led to him becoming a healthy scratch. After watching from the press box, Berglund seemed like a totally different player, as he produced nine goals and 12 points in the final 17 games.
