Ducks' Jason Chimera: Headed for free agency
Chimera, who totaled three goals and 13 points in 74 games this campaign, will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Chimera had a quiet campaign in 2017-18 after posting a respectable 20 goals and 33 points a season ago, so it remains to be seen if any NHL club will express interest in signing the 38-year-old winger to a short-term deal this offseason. If he's unable to land a short-term contract with a contender, it wouldn't be surprising to see Chimera hang up his skates after a successful NHL career which has spanned 18 seasons.

Ducks' Jason Chimera: Scores first two points for Ducks
Chimera set up a Brandon Montour goal and scored a marker of his own Wednesday in a 3-0 win over Vancouver.
Chimera has been a depth player for his NHL club this year in both New York and Anaheim, which seldom bodes well for any fantasy value a player has. Wednesday marked his first goal and first assist in a Ducks sweater since he was traded on Feb. 26, and that provides a pretty good picture of his virtually nonexistent fantasy value. With no valuable contributions in any statistical category this year, Chimera simply isn't going to be much help from a fantasy standpoint.

Ducks' Jason Chimera: Moves over to Anaheim
Chimera was traded from the Islanders to the Ducks in exchange for Chris Wagner on Monday.
Chimera, who pitched in 11 points against a minus-11 rating over 58 games with the Islanders this season, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He figures to make the Ducks faster in transition, as well as improving upon an already robust penalty kill ranked 10th in the league with a stave-off rate of 82 percent.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Records assist
Chimera pitched in an assist during a 5-4 overtime loss to Nashville on Monday.
The tally brought Chimera up to two assists in his last 10 games, and since he's skating on the third line averaging 11:25 of ice time, it's unlikely he picks up his pace anytime soon -- especially since he doesn't appear on the power-play. After notching 20 goals each of the last two seasons, the 38-year-old has only found the twine twice this season, and his nine assists bring his point total to just 11. His shooting percentage of three has to pick up eventually, but he's just not filling the statsheet like he did in 2016-17.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Notches first point of New Year
Chimera recorded an assist during a 7-2 victory over the Rangers on Saturday.
Chimera got his name on the scoresheet with the last goal of the night, recording a primary assist on Cal Clutterbuck's snap shot. The tally broke a six game pointless streak for the 38-year-old -- tied for his second longest of the year -- and brought him up to nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 44 games this season. The veteran's production has certainly dropped from his 33 point effort last year, and since he plays on the fourth line receiving limited offensive opportunities, it's becoming more and more likely that he won't match the mark from 2016-17.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Only seven points this season
Chimera has one goal, six assists, and is a minus-2 in 36 games this year.
Chimera started off slow last season, as well, before finishing with 20 goals and 33 points. He plays on the fourth line in a checking role most nights, but although his role is more of a defensive one, the team would still like to see him chip in more offensively. At 38 years of age (and in the last year of his contract), it's likely that Chimera is playing his last season for the Isles.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Scores first goal of campaign
Chimera finally lit the lamp and added an assist in a 6-5 loss to Ottawa on Friday.
Chimera hasn't contributed much of anything in fantasy value this year, putting up just five points the entire season to date. Considering that he's now at three points through his past 22 games after this outburst, his potential is minimal at best.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Tallies assist Saturday
Chimera recorded an assist during Saturday's 5-3 win over the Lightning.
The 38-year-old winger is definitely starting to show his age as he now has just three assists in 19 games after recording 20-goal, 30-plus point campaigns in the last two years. Chimera's best days are clearly behind him, and his fantasy value is limited to all but the deepest of leagues.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Scoreless in last 12 games
Chimera hasn't registered a point in his last 12 games and only has two assists with zero goals for the entire season.
It's no wonder that many are questioning why Chimera is still a mainstay in the Islanders lineup. The 38-year old forward is in the last year of his contract but one has to believe that sooner or later the Isles will bench the veteran forward for a wing who can provide more offense to a bottom line. This could happen as soon as the organization believes Joshua Ho-Sang is ready to return to the big club.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Still waiting for first goal
Chimera only has two assists in six games for the Isles so far this season.
The 38-year old wing could eventually lose playing time once Alan Quine (upper body) and/or Shane Prince (ankle) return from injured reserve if he doesn't start to produce. Chimera is on the team to provide veteran influence to the younger forwards but the Isles still need him to produce offensively or he will be watching games from the press box.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Could be sent to desert
Chimera is not protected by the Islanders ahead of the upcoming expansion draft.
The Islanders chose to protect four defensemen, which led to an overwhelming number of forwards being exposed. Chimera is coming off a solid campaign, having scored 20 goals and eclipsed the 30-point mark for the second straight season. However, he turned 38 in May, and Vegas is likely to choose a younger presence to build its organization around.

Islanders' Jason Chimera: Hits 20-goal plateau for third time
Chimera scored a goal in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Senators.
Chimera reached the 20-goal mark for the third time in his career. The veteran is a bit of a late bloomer, posting 73 points over his past two seasons. Over his first eight NHL campaigns he totaled 83 goals, but over his past six seasons he has amassed 85.
