Ben Lovejoy: Retires from league
Lovejoy announced his retirement from the NHL on Thursday, Chris Ryan of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
The 11-year veteran most recently played with New Jersey during the 2018-19 campaign before he was traded midseason to Dallas, where he was only utilized as added depth. He ends his career with 20 goals and 81 assists over 544 appearances at the NHL level.

Stars' Ben Lovejoy: Generates helper
Lovejoy had an assist and four blocked shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Predators in Game 1.
Lovejoy is primarily a stay-at-home defender, having gone without a point in his last 17 appearances of the regular season, but he chipped in his helper on Mats Zuccarello's game-winning goal. Lovejoy is not likely to make much of an impact in postseason fantasy formats.

Stars' Ben Lovejoy: First two points with Stars

In his third game since a deadline day deal with the Devils, Lovejoy opened his account with the Stars. He has seen his ice time drop by 2:12 since the trade, as he plays a third-pairing role with his new team. Lovejoy has nine points in 54 contests this year, and hasn't done enough in other categories to warrant much fantasy attention.

Stars' Ben Lovejoy: Donning Stars jersey for first time
Lovejoy will make his Stars debut Sunday versus the Blackhawks, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Lovejoy will be the 14th defenseman to suit up for the Stars this season, as he was just brought in via trade from the Devils on Saturday. He doesn't provide much offensive promise, but Lovejoy is a solid stay-at-home defender. His veteran presence will be important as the Stars look toward the playoffs, as Lovejoy has a Stanley Cup ring from 2016.

Devils' Ben Lovejoy: Facing another absence
Lovejoy (undisclosed) is expected to miss another game Saturday with the Devils scheduled to face the Rangers, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Lovejoy is a candidate to be traded given that he's a veteran defenseman on an expiring contract. He was held out for the same reason against the Senators on Thursday, with the Devils managing to pitch a 4-0 shutout over the Senators in that one.

Stars' Ben Lovejoy: Acquired by Dallas
The Devils traded Lovejoy to the Stars on Saturday in exchange for Connor Carrick and a 2019 third-round draft pick, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
The writing was on the wall that Lovejoy was on his way out of New Jersey since he was intentionally held out of Thursday's game against the Senators. As a 35-year-old veteran, he'll set an example for a young cast of blueliners that has naturally experienced growing pains under first-time Stars coach Jim Montgomery. Lovejoy isn't a viable fantasy commodity, however, as he produced only two goals and five helpers over 51 games for the Devils this season. But he's a nice shutdown type, carrying over 59 hits and 77 blocked shots.

Devils' Ben Lovejoy: Curiously scratched Thursday
Lovejoy (undisclosed) will not play Thursday against the Senators, Rob Carlin of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Lovejoy and Marcus Johansson will both be held out for "precautionary reasons", which begs the question of whether they're actually on the verge of being traded. Time will tell, but it's worth noting that Lovejoy did struggle with an upper-body injury before returning to action Feb. 7.

Lovejoy is averaging 17:12 of ice time this season, which indicates the team was being cautious about his minutes in his return to the lineup. Barring any setbacks, the blueliner should get back to an increased role moving forward, though his lack of offensive touch -- he hasn't broken the 10-point mark since 2015-16 -- limits his fantasy value.

Devils' Ben Lovejoy: Back from injury in blowout loss
Lovejoy was activated from the DL ahead of Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Lightning, posting a minus-2 rating and blocking three shots in his return.
Lovejoy's 16:17 of ice time was the lowest among New Jersey's defensemen, putting him in line with his usual role as he returned from a lower-body injury. The 34-year-old blueliner came into this one sporting a team-high plus-5 rating, which he credits to working with a skills coach for the first time this offseason. Considering he's never eclipsed 20 points in a season, Lovejoy probably should have started working on his skills decades ago.
