Mark Letestu: Hangs up skates
Letestu announced his retirement from the NHL on Sunday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
The 35-year-old played 567 games and generated 93 goals, 117 assists and 90 PIM. In his announcement, he quipped that he "got a lot of time out of being a short, slow guy in a fast man's league." Letestu spent time with Pittsburgh, Columbus, Edmonton and, most recently, Winnipeg.

Letestu (illness) took part in Monday's training camp session, Ken Wiebe of Sportsnetreports.
Based on his linemates, Letestu is likely going to be watching from the press box during the postseason. However, his ability to play center could see him slot in if an injury pops up. Without a clear spot in the lineup, there is no reason for fantasy players to utilize him in playoff pools.

Letestu (illness) returned from his conditioning assignment with AHL Manitoba on Monday.
Letestu has been out since October after being diagnosed with Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart. Depending on when the NHL season resumes, the 35-year-old forward may be ready to join the team for its next contest. He was held without a point in his first seven games this season.

Letestu (illness) was activated off injured reserve and sent down to AHL Manitoba on a conditioning assignment Monday.
While this is certainly a step in the right direction, Letestu should still be considered out indefinitely. Even after a few games in the minors, the Alberta native is far from a lock for the lineup with the Jets, though Nick Shore figures to be the most likely candidate relegated to the press box.

Jets' Mark Letestu: Gets back on ice Monday
Letestu (illness) participated in a 30-minute skate Monday, Mitchell Clinton of JetsTV reports. Head coach Paul Marice said that was "all he can handle" at this point.
Letestu made his first appearance on the ice since being diagnosed with Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, in October. Maurice called this "Day one", and it will likely be a gradual process to get Letestu back into game shape. He was initially handed a six-month timeline to return, which would take him until late-April, early-May at this rate.

Jets' Mark Letestu: Facing six-month absence
Letestu has been diagnosed with Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, and will be out for six months, Rick Ralph of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.
At this point, the earliest Letestu might be eligible to return would be May, so the Jets would need to go on a deep run in order to give him time to return to action. The veteran center was brought in to be a stabilizing force on the fourth line and to serve as a penalty killer. Instead, Winnipeg will need to plug holes with AHL players, unless it wants to make a move ahead of the trade deadline.

Letestu (undisclosed) has been ruled out for the remainder of October, Ken Wiebe of The Athletic reports.
Letestu will undergo further testing at the end of the month. If that goes well, he'll hopefully be able to return for one of Winnipeg's back-to-back games to kick off November.

Letestu signed a one-year, two-way contract with Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Letestu only played in two NHL games last season, spending the bulk of the year in the minors with AHL Cleveland. It was the first time the veteran appeared in an AHL contest since 2009-10, but he performed well with 21 goals and 29 assists. Following the departure of Kevin Hayes, the Jets find themselves relatively thin down the middle, which could open the door for Letestu to be a regular in the lineup in a bottom-six role.

Letestu was sent down to AHL Cleveland on Monday.
Letestu, 34, has played sparingly for the Blue Jackets this season, appearing in just two games and failing to record a point in either. He's been much better in the minors, tallying 26 points in 39 games with AHL Cleveland. Eric Robinson was recalled in a corresponding roster move.

Letestu inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets three days after getting dropped from his professional tryout agreement with the Panthers. The 33-year-old has recorded 93 goals and 117 assists over 558 NHL contests. It will undoubtedly be strange for him to get bussed to the minor league, considering he hasn't played in the AHL since the 2009-10 campaign with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which is Pittsburgh's top affiliate.

Letestu agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Columbus on Thursday.
It was long believed that Letestu had a deal in hand from the Jackets when he joined the Panthers on a PTO -- with the hopes of avoiding a two-way contract. However, after being cut from Florida's camp, the veteran center will return to Columbus for the upcoming season. Letestu was immediately placed on waivers by the club for the purpose of reassignment to the minors, where he will start the 2018-19 campaign.

Letestu was cut by the Panthers on Monday.
Letestu apparently didn't show the organization enough during his PTO to warrant a permanent deal with the club. Considering the center was a somewhat coveted trade asset at last year's deadline, it's surprising to see him struggling to find a club this season. What's next for the Alberta native remains to be seen, but he may need to head overseas if he wants to keep playing.

Panthers' Mark Letestu: Gets tryout with Panthers
Letestu signed a professional tryout contract with the Panthers on Tuesday.
It's a bit surprising that Letestu has to settle on a PTO. After all, he's only 33 years old, and the pivot's been an NHL regular since the 2009-10 season. The veteran even played in the postseason with Columbus last year, though he was held without a point and saw his minutes plummet as the playoffs went on. Letestu is betting on himself by agreeing to a PTO, and he's hoping he can secure a role as a depth forward with the Panthers. If he can't, he could have to settle for a two-way contract or a sojourn in Europe.

Blue Jackets' Mark Letestu: Blanked in postseason
Letestu failed to secure a point in the Blue Jackets' six-game series defeat to the Capitals.
As a result of his lack of productivity, Letestu went from playing 14 minutes in Game 2 to logging a paltry 5:31 in Game 6. It seems the move to Columbus at the trade deadline didn't sit well with the center, as he managed a meager four points in 20 regular season contests. An unrestricted free agent this offseason, it's hard to imagine the club will want to bring the 33-year-old back for 2018-19 given his lack of offensive contributions.

Blue Jackets' Mark Letestu: Tickles twine in Columbus reunion
Letestu scored a goal in the first period of Monday's 5-1 win over the Capitals.
After a warm welcome back by the Columbus crowd -- he played for the Jackets for four years before leaving in free agency ahead of the 2015-16 campaign -- Letestu celebrated his return by lighting the lamp for just the ninth time this season. Perhaps more importantly he won 10 of his 15 faceoffs, and it's his prowess in the circle rather than his pure offensive skill that will keep him on the ice in key situations. Letestu played only 13:13 in Monday's win, but over two minutes of that came on the power play, with an additional three minutes coming while the Jackets were shorthanded.

After Letestu was traded from Edmonton to Columbus on Sunday, there were some issues with his work visa. However, those have clearly been addressed, and the veteran forward will be able to suit up with his new team.
