Sharks' Dalton Prout: Cleared for 2020-21
Prout (upper body) is fully fit ahead of the 2020-21 campaign according to general manager Doug Wilson, Greg Wyshynski of ESPN.com reports.
Prout played in just two games for the Sharks this season, serving primarily as an emergency depth option. As such, the organization could decide not to re-sign Prout this offseason, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent Oct. 9. The blueliner may need to settle for a two-way contract that allows a team to move him between the NHL and AHL.

Sharks' Dalton Prout: Returns from conditioning stint
The Sharks recalled Prout from his conditioning stint in AHL San Jose on Monday, Sharks beat writer Sheng Peng reports.
Prout logged three AHL games, so he could be an option for Tuesday's matchup against the Flyers. He's hasn't played an NHL game since November, and he'll likely work on the bottom pairing if he gets the call.

Prout has been sidelined for over three months with an upper-body injury, so he'll likely stick with San Jose's minor-league affiliate for the full two weeks the NHL allows for conditioning assignments. Either way, the 29-year-old blueliner has only picked up two points in 26 games over the past three campaigns, so there's no reason for fantasy owners to keep tabs on his status.

Prout last took the ice for a one-game return against Anaheim in mid-November and has appeared in just two games all season. The blueliner's return is likely still a ways off, but his presence on the ice in any capacity is a good sign.

Sharks' Dalton Prout: Pugnacious in return
Prout accrued seven PIM and added two blocked shots in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Ducks.
Prout was making his first appearance since Opening Night, as he's missed 18 games with an upper-body injury. In the first period, the defenseman dropped the gloves with the Ducks' Nicolas Deslauriers. Prout would later take a hooking minor in the third period that led to Evander Kane's shorthanded tally. Don't expect Prout to generate much scoring -- he's a defensive and physical presence with more on-ice value than fantasy production.

Prout could retake the ice with the Sharks as soon as Thursday versus the Ducks after recording an assist over two games with the Barracuda. Regardless of his status Thursday, Prout hasn't tallied more than nine points over the course of an NHL season, leaving the veteran off the fantasy radar in the majority of formats.

The defenseman has been sidelined for the last five games after sustaining an upper-body injury in the Oct. 2 season opener versus Vegas. Jacob Middleton took Prout's spot in the lineup in the Sharks' next game Oct. 4, only to suffer an upper-body injury of his own that will likely sideline him through at least mid-November. Prout will likely need to put in a full practice with the rest of San Jose's healthy skaters before his return to action can be viewed as immiinent.

The Sharks have yet to release any details regarding the severity of Prout's upper-body issue, but he'll be sidelined for the team's next four games at a minimum. Jacob Middleton will round out San Jose's depth on the back end until Prout is cleared to play.

Prout potted a goal on two shots in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Sharks.
The blueliner hadn't found twine in over three years, since scoring three goals with the Blue Jackets in 2015-16, but you'd never know it by his slick mitts in front of Sharks goalie Aaron Dell. Prout did finish minus-2 in the contest. The goal was just his second point in 17 outings this season, so don't expect a binge of offense to come suddenly for the 29-year-old.

The veteran defenseman has just one assist, along with 31 hits and 14 blocked shots, in 15 appearances this season. The defensive defenseman has appeared in only four of the Flames' 10 games in February, often serving as a healthy scratch instead.
