Mark Fayne: Released from tryout
The Bruins released Fayne from his professional tryout agreement Wednesday.
The Bruins are pretty well set at defense, so Fayne was never a serious contender for a spot on their Opening Night roster. The 31-year-old American may opt to head overseas to continue his professional career if he doesn't draw interest from another NHL club ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Bruins' Mark Fayne: Inks tryout deal with Bruins
Fayne has signed a PTO with the Bruins.
Fayne was waived by the Oilers ahead of last season and ultimately appeared in just six games for AHL Bakersfield. The 31-year-old defenseman has proven to be a solid shot-blocking presence in the right situation, but long gone are his days flirting with 20 minutes per game. He must first land an actual in-season contract before we can determine what he's worth in fantasy games (if anything at all).

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Waived by team
Fayne was placed on waivers Sunday, with Edmonton intending to reassign him to AHL Bakersfield should he go unclaimed.
Having spent nearly the entirety of 2016-17 in the minors, Fayne's fight to make Edmonton's Opening Night roster made it to October, but his $3.625 million cap hit ultimately proved to be too large of an obstacle to overcome. Fayne is a solid, stay-at-home defender, but doesn't fit Edmonton's system and is unlikely to see NHL ice until his current deal expires upon the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Taken off IR, assigned to minors
Fayne (undisclosed) has been activated from injured reserve and assigned to AHL Bakersfield.
It's been a long, injury-plagued season for Fayne, who has managed to see the ice on only four occasions this season, two of which were cut short by assorted ailments. The New Hampshire native is presumably going to the minors for conditioning, but there's really no telling when he will be recalled.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Sent to IR
Fayne (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
We feel for Fayne, as he missed 21 games with an undisclosed ailment before finally returning Saturday. It's unclear if this is a related setback, but at any rate, the Oilers have recalled David Musil as a reinforcement on the blue line.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Leaves Tuesday's game with mystery ailment
Fayne exited Tuesday's game against the Sabres with an undisclosed injury and will not return, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
It's unclear when or how Fayne sustained the ailment, but given that he won't return to the road contest, his availability for Thursday's game against the Flyers is questionable. The 29-year-old blueliner has never produced more than 20 points in an NHL season, so even when healthy, he's not the best option in fantasy formats.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Promoted to NHL
Fayne was recalled from AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday.
Fayne gets the call with fellow defenseman Eric Gryba going on injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment. The former had been waived only two days ago, but stayed within the Oilers organization upon clearing. Fayne has failed to clear the 20-point mark in six NHL campaigns, and he's skated to a minus-19 rating over his career, so you can safely pass over him in the majority of fantasy formats.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Waived by team
Fayne (undisclosed) was placed on waivers Monday.
Per NHL rules, in order to be waived, Fayne must have been cleared from whatever ailment saw him placed on injured reserve. Given the emergence of other players on the blue line, it shouldn't be overly surprising that the Oilers waived the 29-year-old. Assuming he goes unclaimed, the defenseman will likely be reassigned to the minors.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Lands on IR
Fayne (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, the Oilers promoted Ben Betker from AHL Bakersfield. Even when healthy, Fayne is more of a shutdown type, and not someone who will turn heads in the fantasy realm.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Leaves Tuesday's game, will not return
Fayne left Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes with an undisclosed injury and will not return.
It's unclear what the severity of the ailment is at this point but given he's headed to the locker room for the rest of the game, it could be something more than day-to-day. The Oilers will likely have a status report on the blueliners health in the coming days.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Two goals in 69 games
Fayne had two goals and five assists in 69 games for Edmonton.
Fayne is miscast as a top-four defender as he offers very little in terms of offensive potential or toughness. His roster spot could be in jeopardy next season if the Oilers are able to upgrade their defensive corps over the summer.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Bumped up to top pair on defense
Fayne is currently being paired with Andrej Sekera as the Oilers top unit on defense.
Coach Todd McLellan has been juggling both offensive and defensive lines trying to shake the team out of its slump. Fayne only has nine goals over the past four seasons and zero on the power play so don't let this move fool you, he is still very likely not fantasy worthy unless you're playing in the deepest of deep leagues.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Listed on Oilers roster
Fayne is currently on the Oilers roster, Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED reports.
Fayne was reportedly added to the roster when Rob Klinkhammer was placed on injured reserve, but he's yet to draw into the lineup. He'll continue to provide depth along the blue line, but his run with the team could come to an end when one of the currently injured players rejoins the lineup.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Clears waivers, assigned to AHL
Fayne has been assigned to the Condors of the AHL after clearing waivers Thursday.
Fayne had signed a four-year, $14.5 million contract with the Oilers in July of 2014, which would have equated to a $3.625 million cap hit this season. However, by placing Fayne on waivers and assigning him to the minors, the Oilers have effectively buried a large portion of his contract, while freeing up more cap space to promote Nikita Nikitin from the minors.

Oilers' Mark Fayne: Placed on waivers Wednesday
Fayne was placed on waivers with the intention of assignment to the AHL on Wednesday.
The 28-year old defenseman earned himself a four-year, $14.5 million contract with the Oilers prior to the 2014-15 season, but hasn't met the expectations that came along with the deal. Averaging just over 16 minutes per game, Fayne recorded an assist and a minus-8 rating in 24 games this season. Barring major injuries on the Edmonton blueline or a trade, expect Fayne to play out the last two years of his contract in the minors.
