Chris Summers: Bound for Europe
Summers inked a one-year contract with German side Nurnberg on Wednesday.
After spending the past three seasons in the AHL without an NHL appearance, Summers will transition to the DEL, his first foray into European hockey. The 31-year-old saw action in 70 NHL games with the Coyotes and Rangers, in which he notched two goals, seven helpers and 52 shots. The blueliner figures to close out his professional career overseas.

Penguins' Chris Summers: Demoted to minors
The Penguins reassigned Summers to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Ian Cole was cleared for action Tuesday after missing three games due to a mouth injury, so Pittsburgh is no longer in need of Summers' services as a depth defender. The 29-year-old American will, however, continue to be one of the first players the Penguins turn to when they're dealing with injuries at defense this season.

Summers put pen to paper on a two-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Summers tallied four goals and eight helpers in his 74 minor-league contests last year. The University of Michigan product was selected 29th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft by the Coyotes but was never able to secure a regular role within their organization. While the occasional call-up is definitely in the offing this season, the bulk of the defenseman's starts will likely be with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Rangers' Chris Summers: Placed on waviers
Summers was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Tuesday in order to reassign him to the minors, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Summers came over to New York as part of the Keith Yandle deal back in March of 2015 and has played in just six outings for the Rangers since. Primarily used in AHL Hartford, the blueliner offers little in terms of offensive production, which extremely limits his fantasy value.

Rangers' Chris Summers: Signs one-year deal
Summers signed a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 with the Rangers on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
The contract's worth $350,000 at the AHL level. Summers was a first-round pick (No. 29 overall by the Coyotes) back in 2006, but has never panned out into much of an NHL player. The 28-year-old spent most of this past season in AHL Hartford, accumulating 11 points in 74 contests, and got into just three scoreless games with the Rangers. Summers is likely in for another season as a depth defenseman in 2016-17.

Summers was recalled by the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL on Friday.
With Dan Girardi still in New York for Friday's tilt in Winnipeg, Summers looks set to make his season debut for the Rangers. The 27-year old defenseman has appeared in 67 NHL games with the Coyotes and Rangers, totaling two goals and nine points in that time. Summers will likely serve as the Rangers' sixth defenseman against the Jets and receive limited minutes.
