Eddie Lack: Hanging up skates
Lack announced via his personal twitter account Wednesday that he is retiring from professional hockey and will become the goaltending coach at Arizona State University.
Before hip surgery forced Lack to be sidelined for the remainder of 2018-19, he posted a 2-3-0 record along with a 4.10 GAA and .863 save percentage over six appearances with AHL Binghamton. The 31-year-old Swede enjoyed a five-year career in the NHL, highlighted by stops in Carolina, Vancouver, Calgary and New Jersey. He will now step into the coaching ranks for a Sun Devils team that made its first program appearance in the NCAA tournament last season.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Surgery ends season
Lack recently underwent successful hip surgery and will be out for the remainder of 2018-19.
Before going down with a season-ending hip injury, Lack posted a 2-3-0 record along with a 4.10 GAA and .863 save percentage over six appearances with AHL Binghamton. A free agent at season's end, there's no guarantee the 30-year-old Swede will find an NHL job beyond 2018-19.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Hits waiver wire
Lack was placed on waivers by the Devils on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
The move was a long time coming with Cory Schneider healthy, though the club put off the transaction by sending Lack out on a conditioning assignment. If the Swede clears, which is by no means guaranteed, he will remain with AHL Binghamton.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Sent out for conditioning assignment
Lack was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Monday for a conditioning stint.
With no back-to-backs on the schedule, the Devils let Keith Kinkaid carry the load to start the season, which means Lack hasn't played in a game since the preseason. The netminder was flipped for Cory Schneider (hip) -- who was recalled from a conditioning assignment of his own -- which could mean Lack's trip down is an audition for a potential trade partner.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Makes 35 saves in OT loss
Lack stopped 35 of 39 shots in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers in preseason action.
The 30-year-old played in only eight NHL games last year, but Lack could see a lot more action with the Devils in 2018-19 if Cory Schneider's hip issues linger into the regular season. Even if Lack is needed on the big club, however, he'll still start out as the No. 2 netminder behind Keith Kincaid.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Inks one-year contract extension
Lack secured a one-year, one-way contract extension with the Devils on Saturday.
Signing this deal should be a boon to Lack's confidence. Between 2013-15, he posted a serviceable 34-30-9 record, 2.43 GAA and .917 save percentage with Vancouver to get his career started, but the goalie flopped in subsequent tours with Carolina and Calgary. While the Flames sent Lack to New Jersey in a 1-for-1 swap for defenseman Dalton Prout last December, the 30-year-old likely needs a perfect storm for fantasy owners to trust him again. As it stands now, he's probably third on the organizational depth chart behind Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Added to NHL roster
Lack was called up from AHL Binghamton on Saturday.
This gives the Devils three goalies on the active roster for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Capitals. However, Cory Schneider reportedly will draw the start with Keith Kinkaid in the fold as well. Lack's been a goalie to avoid in the fantasy realm since he's posted a cumulative 4.02 GAA and .870 percentage in five games and eight starts between the Flames and Devils this season.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Returned to AHL
Lack was demoted back to AHL Binghamton on Thursday.
Lack's reassignment comes as a result of Cory Schneider (groin) rejoining the fold for the Devils and retaking his place between the pipes Thursday. The 30-year-old Swede initially landed with New Jersey's AHL club after he was dealt to the Devils in late December, posting an impressive 2.14 GAA and .915 save percentage over five appearances in the minors before being recalled. Lack will once again serve as organizational depth, but he could be recalled if either of the Devils' netminders becomes unavailable.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Looking to stay hot against Wild
Lack has drawn a home start versus the Wild on Thursday, Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record reports.
The 30-year-old netminder dropped jaws in his road start against the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning on Saturday, as he was faced with a whopping 51 shots and managed to turn away all but three of them en route to his first victory with New Jersey. Lack reportedly will be countered by Alex Stalock in the upcoming contest, while fielding shots from a team that ranks 13th in road scoring. Even though he caught the Lightning in a bottle his last time out, we're wary of him based on a career save percentage of .909 between the Canucks, Hurricanes, Flames and Devils.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Stymies Bolts with four dozen saves
Lack made 48 saves in a 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
Lack absolutely stymied the Bolts time and time again to earn his first win as a Devil. But as good as he was, Lack may not be in the league for long. He will likely be headed back to the AHL when Cory Schneider returns from IR.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Daunting match on tap
Lack will patrol the crease as a road starter against the Lightning on Saturday, Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record reports.
It's an ugly matchup for Lack, as the Lightning feature the league's top offense, as well as a deadly power play that ranks second overall (24.3 percent). Lack's made two appearances with New Jersey since his trade from Calgary on Dec. 30, losing one of those in regulation and not even factoring into the other since it was a relief showing. All things considered, you'd have to be very brazen to roll him out in fantasy Saturday.

Lack allowed four goals on 26 shots in Sunday's loss to the Bruins.
Boston is an Eastern Conference powerhouse and Lack didn't have the answer in what was his first start as a Devil and just his second NHL appearance since mid-November. The 30-year-old has only appeared in six games this season, posting a 1-3-0 record with an ugly .833 save percentage and 4.55 GAA. The former Canuck is not worthy of a look in fantasy right now.

This was Lack's first appearance in the NHL since Nov. 15, and he doesn't project to stick with the Devils once Cory Schneider (groin) is healthy. Still, the veteran Swede is worth a look as a streaming option or low-priced flier in daily contests if he receives the starting nod against a favorable opponent.

Lack will put a Devils jersey on for the first time since being traded by the Flames on Dec. 30, but it's unclear if he'll get a start since his call-up was due to a Cory Schneider groin injury. Lack has appeared in just four NHL games this season, accruing a troubling .813 save percentage and 5.29 GAA, winning just one matchup. It's tough to judge from such a small sample size, but the 30-year-old hasn't been trusted as a consistent starter anywhere lately, so fantasy owners should follow suit.

Devils' Eddie Lack: Dealt to New Jersey
The Flames traded Lack to the Devils on Saturday in exchange for blueliner Dalton Prout.
Lack was immediately reassigned to AHL Binghamton, which is the top development affiliate of the Devils. The Flames have been extremely pleased with David Rittich as the new backup to workhorse Mike Smith, so Lack was deemed expendable by the Canadian club. Obviously, Lack -- who posted an awful 1-2-0 record with a 5.29 GAA and .813 save percentage for Calgary -- won't have fantasy value in his new digs as he'll remain a third-string goalie behind Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid.
