Oilers' Brandon Manning: Waived by Edmonton
The Oilers placed Manning on waivers Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Manning has been a healthy scratch for 18 consecutive contests, so this move hardly comes as a surprise. It wouldn't be shocking to see the 29-year-old blueliner back with the big club later this season, but he won't have any fantasy value in 2019-20.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Can't get into lineup
Manning has not made an appearance in December.
Manning has been unable to unseat Caleb Jones for playing time on the third pairing. Jones, a prospect, will likely continue to hold down the job, while Manning figures to serve as defensive depth. The 29-year-old has just one goal and 17 PIM in nine appearances this year.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Serving as defensive depth
Manning has not appeared in seven games since returning from a hand injury.
Manning has one goal, 17 PIM and 10 hits in nine games this season. He is typically the Oilers' seventh defenseman, although he could occasionally draw in for the recently recalled Joel Persson. Manning would likely step into the lineup if injuries struck on the blue line.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Lifted off IR
The Oilers activated Manning (hand) off injured reserve Thursday.
It isn't clear if Manning will be in the lineup for Thursday's game against L.A., but he'll be available if needed. The 29-year-old has potted one goal while averaging just 11:03 of ice time in nine games this campaign.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Lands on IR
Manning (hand) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Manning was lauded for dropping the mitts against Barclay Goodrow during Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Sharks, but it appears he'll miss time due to the bout. The 29-year-old will be eligible to return from IR against the Sharks on Nov. 19. They recalled 22-year-old Caleb Jones from AHL Bakersfield to fill the void.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Drops mitts Tuesday
Manning racked up 15 PIM in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Sharks.
Manning fought Sharks forward Barclay Goodrow in the second period, but it was the former who earned a game misconduct penalty. Manning was appearing for just the second time in the Oilers' last seven games, as Joel Persson took a turn as a healthy scratch. Manning is likely to serve as defensive depth when Adam Larsson (lower leg) returns within the next couple of weeks.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Healthy scratch Wednesday
Manning was a healthy scratch for Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jackets.
The defenseman had appeared in the previous seven games, but he found himself out of the lineup with Joel Persson returning from a concussion. Manning may find playing time harder to come by going forward -- the Oilers have eight healthy defensemen on the roster. William Lagesson seems most likely to be sent down to AHL Bakersfield, while Manning would watch most games from the press box.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Scores against former team
Manning scored a goal on two shots Wednesday in a 6-3 win over the Flyers.
The 26-year-old defenseman drew into the Edmonton lineup since last February, and it happened to be against the team that had traded him to the Oilers. Manning powered home a one-timer from long range early in the third period, his first goal since Jan. 20, 2018. It was a nice moment for Manning, but he remains a depth player at best for the Oilers.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Press box regular
Manning has yet to appear for the Oilers in 2019-20.
Such is life for a seventh defenseman. Manning would only make an appearance if another blueliner is unavailable. He produced only four points in 39 games between the Oilers and Blackhawks last season.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Remaining with Oilers
Manning cleared waivers but will remain with the Oilers to start the season.
Manning's stay with the Oilers will likely come down to how long Joel Persson (shoulder) is sidelined. Since Manning has already cleared waivers, he will not need to do so again before being sent down. It is likely the 29-year-old will be a healthy scratch more often than not at the start of the year.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Hits waivers
Manning was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Monday, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Manning was competing with William Lagesson for the seventh defenseman role on the roster, and he did not win the job. Manning will report to AHL Bakersfield if he clears waivers.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Waived by team
Manning was designated for waivers by the Oilers on Monday in order to send him down to the minors.
Manning appears to be the odd man out on the blue line in order to create space on the 23-man roster for Andrej Sekera (Achilles). The 28-year-old Manning carries a $2.25 million cap hit, which could dissuade any teams from putting in a claim. If the 28-year-old does clear, he will be reassigned to AHL Bakersfield, where he could spend the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Only one point with Edmonton
Manning has a goal and a minus-4 rating in eight games with the Oilers.
Manning was also a healthy scratch four times, so he clearly hasn't been much of a spark on the blue line. However, Drake Caggiula, who the Oilers sent to Chicago in exchange for Manning, has just one point in eight games as well and he's getting top-line minutes. Manning should be considered out of the fantasy realm for the time being.

Oilers' Brandon Manning: Traded north of the border
Manning and Robin Norell were dished to the Oilers in exchange for Drake Caggiula and Jason Garrison, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The Oilers are looking to improve their defensive group but this acquisition is quite a surprise. Manning notoriously broke Connor McDavid's collarbone during the star's rookie season. McDavid later claimed the injury was intentional, calling Manning "classless." In his first season as a Blackhawk, Manning has just one goal and three points in 27 games and likely won't post much better numbers with Edmonton.

Blackhawks' Brandon Manning: Scores in overtime loss
Manning potted a goal in Sunday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.
The former Flyer has been skating in a bottom-pairing role with his new club, and is averaging just 15:27 of ice time per game. Manning may be the odd man out once Gustav Forsling (wrist) returns in mid-November, so there's no reason for him to be owned in fantasy leagues at this point.

Blackhawks' Brandon Manning: Procures two-year deal with Chicago
Manning signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Blackhawks on Sunday, according to TSN.
The Flyers let Manning walk as an unrestricted free agent after he spent six seasons exclusively with the Eastern Conference club. In that span, the defenseman compiled 43 points (11 goals, 32 assists) over 207 contests. The Blackhawks had a lot of trouble keeping pucks out of the net last season, as they ranked 24th in goals allowed (3.07 per game), but Manning should help patch things up a bit.
