Ryan Murphy: Returning to KHL
Murphy signed a one-year contract with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the KHL on Wednesday, Patrick Williams of NHL.com reports.
Murphy spent last season with AHL Grand Rapids, logging 29 points in 53 contests. Despite that modest success, he'll head back overseas after previously playing in the KHL with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and Dinamo Minsk for a couple of years. The 29-year-old defenseman may not make it back to North American hockey again, and he hasn't played in the NHL since 2018-19.

Murphy was waived by the Red Wings on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Murphy returned from a two-year stint in the KHL and racked up 27 points in 37 games with AHL Henderson during the 2020-21 campaign. He hasn't appeared in an NHL contest since the 2018-19 season and should spend most of this year in the minors as well.

Red Wings' Ryan Murphy: Joins Detroit
Murphy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Red Wings on Wednesday.
Murphy is coming off a strong year with AHL Henderson in which he produced 27 points in 37 contests. The 28-year-old defenseman hasn't played in the NHL since 2018-19 when he played in three games between the Wild and the Devils. The Red Wings are in a rebuild, but it's unclear if the Ontario native will get a chance to win a roster spot in training camp.

Ryan Murphy: Bound for KHL
Murphy signed a one-year contract with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk (KHL) on Saturday.
After being acquired via trade from Minnesota during the 2018-19 season, the Devils opted not to extend Murphy a qualifying offer this offseason. With no deal in place, the 26-year-old will try his luck in the KHL. Selected by the Hurricanes with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, the blueliner logged 175 games with Carolina, Minnesota and New Jersey, in which he tallied eight goals and 35 helpers. At this point, Murphy should probably be considered a long shot to make his way back to the NHL and will likely close out his career overseas.

Ryan Murphy: Hitting open market
Murphy did not receive a qualifying offer from the Devils ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
New Jersey acquired Murphy back in January, but the 26-year-old never found his footing in the Devils organization, appearing in just one game and failing to record a point. Barring a big jump in performance, Murphy almost certainly will spend most of next season in the minors, but it won't be with AHL Binghamton (New Jersey's AHL affiliate).

Devils' Ryan Murphy: Relegated to AHL duty
Murphy was assigned to AHL Binghamton on Monday.
The Devils needed to clear a roster spot after claiming Kenny Agostino off waivers from the Canadiens. Murphy picked up an assist in his last game with the Devils but will now return to their AHL affiliate, where he's played only a pair of games in 2018-19. The 25-year-old has split time with Iowa and Binghamton this season.

Devils' Ryan Murphy: Added to NHL roster
Murphy was called up from AHL Binghamton on Saturday, Chris Ryan of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
This counts as Murphy's first call-up since the Wild traded him to the Devils on Jan. 30. The right-shot defenseman has eight goals and 34 assists over 174 career NHL games between the Hurricanes and Wild. New Jersey will square off against Minnesota on Saturday afternoon, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Murphy in action against his former team.

Devils' Ryan Murphy: Dished to New Jersey
The Wild traded Murphy to the Devils on Wednesday in exchange for Michael Kapla.
Although Murphy has never lived up to his 12th overall selection in 2011, the blueliner has recorded a few respectable NHL campaigns and racked up 28 points -- four goals and 24 assists -- in the AHL last season. Murphy will make the third stop of his career in New Jersey, where the Devils hope to unlock his first-round talent. However, he'll begin his time with the organization in the AHL.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Sent to AHL affiliate
Minnesota assigned Murphy to AHL Iowa on Tuesday.
The Wild needed to send Murphy packing in order to make room on their roster for Joel Eriksson Ek, who will serve as an insurance option up front against the Bruins on Tuesday. Murphy will likely be recalled by the big club as soon as Eric Fehr (undisclosed) is cleared to play.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Bumps up a rank
The Wild recalled Murphy from AHL Iowa on Tuesday, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
The Wild sent Matt Bartkowski down to minors after Monday's loss to the Penguins, so Murphy was brought up to add depth to the blue line with Nick Seeler (upper body) still injured. Murphy has held his own in the minors with 13 points in 27 games, and his ceiling is on the bottom pairing during this NHL stint.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Placed on waivers
Murphy was placed on waivers Monday, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
Since being selected 12th overall in the 2011 draft, Murphy has underperformed, having managed only 42 points in 172 NHL games --- for his career, Murphy is a minus-28. He will begin 2018-19 in AHL Iowa but could a taste of NHL action if his play is deserving of such a promotion. Regardless of where he winds up, there is no need to consider the 25-year-old in any fantasy format.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Re-signs with Wild
Murphy inked a one-year, two-way contract with Minnesota on Monday worth $650,000 at the NHL level.
Murphy saw action in 21 games for the Wild this season, as he frequently found himself traveling between the Twin Cities and AHL Iowa. When he was in the lineup, the Ontario native averaged 19:01 of ice time and could see his role expanded during the upcoming campaign -- although fantasy owners should still expect to see him in the minors periodically.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Will make first playoff appearance Friday
Murphy will make his NHL playoff debut Friday evening against the Jets, Michael Russo of The Athletic Minnesota reports.
Murphy will get a chance to help the Wild overcome a 3-1 series deficit, likely taking the place of green prospect Carson Soucy, who's gone minus-3 without any points in these conference quarterfinals. While Murphy originally heard his name called by the Hurricanes with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 draft, he's been used judiciously at the highest level, so there's not much incentive to roll him out in playoff pools. Murphy has provided 42 points (eight goals, 34 assists) in 172 career contests.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Promoted Wednesday
Murphy was recalled from AHL Iowa on Wednesday, Sarah McLellan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Murphy's move to the NHL coincides with the news that fellow blueliner Jared Spurgeon will miss at least the next four weeks with a hamstring injury. A first-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2011, Murphy is a similar player to Spurgeon in the sense that he's somewhat undersized, yet uses his skating and puck-moving abilities to be an effective player. In nine games with Minnesota earlier in the campaign, Murphy logged a goal, an assist, and an impressive plus-5 rating.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Heads to bus league
Murphy was reassigned to AHL Iowa on Saturday, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
The Ontario native with shot-blocking prowess was relegated to the minors in order to clear a path for Jared Spurgeon (groin), who is set to return Sunday evening against the Blackhawks. It's generally considered fruitless to roster role players lacking consistent roles in the NHL.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Scores first goal with Wild
Murphy scored his first goal of the season and had an assist while getting 18:19 of ice time in Sunday's win at San Jose.
Murphy has had a large role on the blue line since being called up from the AHL as he's averaging 18 minutes of ice time per game. Although he hasn't contributed much offense in his career (just 37 points in 151 games with Carolina) he's getting time on the power play as well (1:15 this season), so he may merit a look in deep leagues.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Recalled from minors
Murphy was summoned from AHL Iowa on Monday, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
Murphy was sent down I-35 on Sunday because Minnesota was attempting to save cap space, and he will join the team for its three-game California road trip. The 24-year-old has only played in three games for Minnesota this season and will likely serve as the seventh defenseman on the swing out west.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Called up from AHL
Murphy was recalled from AHL Iowa on Monday.
After spending the beginning of his NHL career in Carolina, this is Murphy's first season with the Wild. He hasn't played in a game yet, though, and he may not play in Monday's contest. Jared Spurgeon is sick, so Murphy was called up as a precaution.

Wild's Ryan Murphy: Lands on waivers
Murphy was waived by Minnesota on Monday.
A first-round pick in 2011, Murphy is still just 24 years old but has failed to establish himself at the NHL level at this point in his career. Over 151 NHL games, Murphy has recorded six goals and 37 points while posting an ugly minus-36 rating. It will be interesting to see if another team takes a flyer on Murphy while he's on waivers, but if he clears, he will be reassigned to AHL Iowa.
