Darren Archibald: Inks AHL deal with Toronto
Archibald signed a one-year, minor-league contract with AHL Toronto on Monday.
Since Archibald's deal isn't of the two-way variety, the Maple Leafs won't hold his rights, allowing any of the NHL's 31 teams to pick him up if a club deems him worthy of a promotion from the AHL. The 29-year-old split the 2018-19 campaign between the Senators and Canucks and their respective AHL affiliates at Belleville and Utica. He tallied 33 points in 51 AHL games and two points in 12 games at the NHL level.

Senators' Darren Archibald: Sent right back to AHL
Archibald was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Friday, Dean Brown of the Senators Radio Network reports.
Archibald was called up Thursday morning, ahead of a road contest against the Devils, but he turned in a minus-2 rating and failed to record a shot over 9:50 of ice time in the 4-0 loss. Apparently, the Senators have altered their short-term plans with the trade deadline looming, and it involves highly touted forward prospect Drake Batherson getting another shot at the top level.

Archibald has frequently shuffled about the organization's ranks this season, but it's worth noting that the roster makeup of the parent club could change drastically since the team's top point-getters -- Matt Duchene (undisclosed) and Mark Stone -- are considered attractive trade pieces ahead of Monday's deadline. Over 54 games at the top level, covering stints between the Canucks and Senators, Archibald has compiled 14 points (six goals, eight assists).

Archibald played in one game with the big club during this stint, logging just 4:21 TOI and blocking a shot. The Senators only have 11 healthy forwards on the roster now. Therefore, either Mikkel Boedker (abdomen) or Jack Rodewald (undisclosed) is nearing recovery or Archibald will likely be recalled for Monday's game versus the Blackhawks.

The team is heading out on a three-game swing through California, so it likely wanted to have a spare forward should somebody pick up an injury. In his nine outings for the Canucks this season, the winger logged two points, 12 PIM and eight hits while averaging a mere 7:38 of ice time.

The Canucks traded Archibald and goaltender Anders Nilsson to Ottawa in exchange for Mike McKenna, Tom Pyatt and a 2019 sixth-round pick Wednesday.
Archibald has only two points in nine NHL games, with the 28-year-old spending most of his time with AHL Utica this season. In 2018-19, the right winger has scored 11 goals and 16 points in 23 minor-league games, but it remains to be seen what type of role Archibald will fill with the struggling Senators who, with each passing day, fall further and further out of playoff contention. Even if he carves out a consistent NHL role with his new club, Archibald's lack of production makes him a low-value commodity in fantasy.
