Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Hanging up his skates
Shaw (concussion) is retiring from the NHL.
Concussions have forced the 29-year-old winger into an early retirement, but Shaw enjoyed a fruitful career before the unfortunate run-in with injuries. He captured a pair of Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks and finishes his career with 116 goals and 247 points in 544 games spread over 10 seasons; seven with Chicago and three with Montreal.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Placed on LTIR
Shaw (concussion) was placed on long-term injured reserve Friday.
According to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, general manager Stan Bowman told reporters doctors will determine if Shaw will be able to continue playing once he "starts feeling better from his concussion," but at this point it seems as though the 29-year-old forward may be forced into an early retirement. If that ends up being the case, the two-time Stanley Cup champion will hang up his skates having amassed 116 goals, 131 assists and 573 PIM in 544 career appearances.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Lands on IR
Shaw (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Shaw missed most of the 2019-20 campaign with a concussion, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him miss extended time with his latest head injury. The 29-year-old forward has picked up four points through 14 games this campaign.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Placed in concussion protocol
Shaw has entered the league's concussion protocol, Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
This is brutal news for Shaw, who missed the majority of the 2019-20 campaign with a concussion. For now, the feisty winger should be considered out indefinitely. With Shaw no longer in the mix, Mattias Janmark could see additional opportunities on Chicago's No. 1 power-play unit going forward.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Lights lamp on power play
Shaw scored a power-play goal on three shots in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Hurricanes.
Shaw's tally came in the dying seconds of the first period to give the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead. While that advantage didn't hold up, Chicago won in the end. The 29-year-old Shaw has two goals and two assists in 12 games, and all of his offense has come with the man advantage. He's added 23 shots, 20 hits and six PIM.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Strikes on power play
Shaw scored a power-play goal and doled out two hits in Friday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Shaw's third-period goal gave the Blackhawks a 3-0 lead. It was his first tally of the year. The 29-year-old forward has added an assist, 10 hits, 11 shots on goal and a minus-3 rating through five contests. While he's still a physical presence on the third line, Shaw doesn't score like he used to. He's worth a look in deeper formats due to his usage on the power play.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Scoring pace slowing
Shaw has one assist and four shots on goal in three games this season.
Since scoring a career-high 47 points during the 2018-19 campaign, Shaw has just 11 points in 29 games over the last two seasons with Chicago. The Blackhawks have scored just five goals in three games to open the season so the 29-year-old isn't alone with his lack of offense. Unless he moves into the top-six, Shaw could post disappointing scoring numbers again this season.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Ready for camp
According to general manager Stan Bowman, Shaw (concussion) has been medically cleared ahead of training camp, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Shaw only appeared in 26 games with the Blackhawks last season before missing the rest of the year with a concussion, picking up 10 points while racking up 74 hits over that span. It remains to be seen what kind of role the feisty forward will have in 2020-21, so virtual managers should plan on taking a wait-and-see approach with Shaw.

Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Expects to return in 2020-21
Shaw (concussion) indicated Monday that he intends to return for the 2020-21 season, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Shaw sat out all but 26 games in 2019-20 due to a concussion and admitted that he had battled with concussions the previous season, as well. While it may not spell an end to his career at this point, it certainly puts him more in danger of longer absences should future incidents occur. For now, Shaw is gearing up for a return to the Blackhawks next season after compiling 10 points (three goals, seven assists) this year.

Shaw is still experiencing concussion symptoms and isn't close to returning to game action, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports.

Shaw (concussion) was flipped to long-term injured reserve Monday.

Chicago placed Shaw (concussion) on injured reserve Friday.
Shaw will technically be eligible to return to action Sunday against Arizona, but until the Blackhawks provide another update on his status, he should be considered out indefinitely. Blackhawks' Andrew Shaw: Diagnosed with concussion
Shaw (concussion) won't practice Tuesday.
It's notoriously difficult to predict recovery timetables when it comes to concussions, so Shaw can be considered out indefinitely until he's able to get back on the ice for practice, at which point his return should be imminent. Dylan Strome and Drake Caggiula are both already dealing with concussions of their own, so Chicago will likely promote a forward from its AHL affiliate ahead of Thursday's matchup with Boston.

According to coach Jeremy Colliton, Shaw (hip) "should be fine" for Thursday's matchup with Tampa Bay, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports.
Shaw missed Wednesday's practice due to a hip injury, but it looks like his absence was likely precautionary. The feisty forward should continue to fill a bottom-six role while skating on Chicago's top power-play unit against the Lightning.
