Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Announces retirement
Luongo will call it a career after 19 years in the NHL, the team announced Wednesday.
Luongo hangs up his skates having appeared in 1,044 games for the Islanders, Canucks and Panthers. Selected with the fourth overall pick in the 1997 NHL Draft, the veteran logged over 70-plus games in four seasons, something that is unlikely to happen again in today's NHL. The world-class netminder will no doubt garner consideration for the Hall of Fame, as he ends his career with a 489-392-124 record, .919 save percentage and 2.52 GAA.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Falls in finale
Luongo stopped 23 of 27 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
The 40-year-old wasn't able to extend his winning streak to four games to close out the season. Luongo posted the worst numbers of his career in 2018-19, but given that he still has three years left on his contract, he'll likely be in the goaltending mix in some fashion for Florida next season.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Stopping pucks in finale Saturday
Luongo will start in the home goal Saturday for the season finale against the Devils, George Richards of The Athletic reports.
The Panthers have missed the playoffs, though Luongo has a chance to close out the season on a high note, as he'll be in pursuit of his fourth straight win facing a Devils club with a paltry road record of 10-26-3.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Wins third straight
Luongo stopped 27 of 30 shots in Monday's 5-3 win over the Capitals.
The 39-year-old has won three straight starts and four of five since regaining his spot at the top of the Panthers' depth chart from rookie Samuel Montembeault. Luongo's 2.66 GAA and .918 save percentage over that stretch are right in line with his performance over the last couple of seasons, and despite his age, he still has something left in the tank when he's 100 percent healthy.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Gets starting nod Monday
Luongo will be between the pipes for Monday's home clash with Washington, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
Luongo has stepped up his game of late, as he is 3-1-0 with a .922 save percentage in his last four outings. Given the Panthers won't be making the playoffs, it's a little surprising to see the club not give the nod to Samuel Montembeault, though it could just be resting him up to take the final two games of the season. With the youngster pushing for a spot on the roster, Florida will have some tough choices to make in goal, especially in regards to the 39-year-old Luongo, who carries a $4.53 million cap hit for another three years.

Luongo stopped 30 of 31 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Bruins.
A Noel Acciari goal in the second period spoiled Luongo's bid for his second shutout of the season. The netminder has won three of his last four starts, posting a 2.57 GAA and .922 save percentage as he looks to finish his 19th NHL season on a high note.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Back in goal versus B's
Luongo will start between the pipes in Saturday afternoon's road game against the Bruins, Steve Goldstein of Fox Sports Florida reports.
Luongo draws a second consecutive start after thwarting the Senators with a 28-save effort in their barn Thursday. It's been an inconsistent campaign for the league's oldest netminder, but he's held up for the most part, posting a 16-16-4 record, 3.16 GAA and .898 save percentage over 40 games. Bobby Lou will now clash with a Boston club that ranks sixth in the league in home scoring (3.49 goals per game).

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Gets kitties back in win column
Luongo made 28 saves in a 5-2 win over Ottawa on Thursday.
He managed to pull to 16-16-4 with the win. Bobby Lou is a potential Hall-of-Fame goalie, but at 39, his best is well behind him. Luongo did get the kitties in the win column, though, and that's something that hadn't happened in their three previous games.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Won't start Tuesday
Luongo won't get the start in goal for Tuesday's matchup with Montreal.
The Panthers originally planned on rolling with Luongo for Tuesday's contest, but that all changed when the veteran netminder was forced to relieve Samuel Montembeault early on in the first period of Monday's 7-5 loss to Toronto. Luongo's next opportunity to start in goal could arrive as soon as Thursday against the Senators.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Rough night in relief
Luongo replaced Samuel Montembeault early in the first period Monday, stopping 28 of 33 shots in a 7-5 loss to the Maple Leafs.
It seemed like every goal Toronto scored against Luongo came from right on his doorstep, as the Panthers' defensive coverage was atrocious all night. The veteran netminder was initially named the starter for Tuesday's game in Montreal, but it's unclear whether that plan will still be in place after his heavy workload in this one.

Luongo will serve as the backup Monday in Toronto before taking the reins Tuesday, according to coach Bob Boughner. The veteran backstop will look to play spoiler against a Canadiens club that's battling for one of the two wild-card spots in the Eastern Conference.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Records win in return to crease
Luongo stopped 32 of 34 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over Arizona.
Luongo last played two weeks ago, back on March 7, in a 4-3 loss to Boston. With Thursday's win, the Panthers' netminder avoids what was trending towards an unfortunate milestone, as Luongo had gone nearly a month without a win (Feb. 25). Now back on good terms, his record moves to 15-15-4.

Panthers' Roberto Luongo: Back in goal against Arizona
Luongo will patrol the blue paint in Thursday's home game against the Coyotes, George Richards of The Athletic reports.
Luongo will make his first start since March 7. The 39-year-old has avoided any major injuries this season, but the Panthers know exactly what they have in Bobby Lou, as opposed to rookie netminder Samuel Montembeault, who is finally taking a break after starting six straight games. Luongo will now square off against an Arizona team that has lost two straight games and has a white-knuckled grip on a potential playoff spot.
