Deryk Engelland: Announces retirement
Engelland has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
Engelland played a total of 11 NHL seasons split between the Penguins, Flames and Golden Knights during his career, totaling 30 goals, 97 assists and a whopping 579 PIM in 671 appearances. Although his playing days are over, Engelland will remain in the world of professional hockey as a member of Vegas' front office staff.

Golden Knights' Deryk Engelland: Turned down trade opportunity
According to general manager Kelly McCrimmon, Engelland turned down an opportunity to be moved to another team at the trade deadline, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
Engelland could have gotten more playing time with the club that expressed interest in acquiring him at the deadline, but he decided to remain with the Golden Knights because he believed the team had a real chance of winning the Stanley Cup this year. He wasn't far off, as Vegas made it all the way to the Western Conference finals before being knocked out by the Stars. It remains to be seen if the Knights, or any NHL club for that matter, will express interest in signing the 38-year-old blueliner to a short-term deal this offseason.

The long-time Vegas resident was able to hit the open market this offseason, but elected to stay in his familiar place. He continues to be a solid shutdown blueliner based on his regular-season output of 165 hits and 152 blocked shots. At 37 years old, it's unrealistic to expected him to be an every-night defenseman at this point in his career, but he certainly will fulfill a veteran role on a young and emerging d-core. His deal also includes incentives that could total up to an AAV of $1.5 million.

The goal came 9:30 into the third period, and it was enough to break the 1-1 tie the teams had battled to at that point. Engelland has nine points in 61 games, a drastic regression from the career-high 23 he had last season. With 141 hits and 123 blocked shots this year, he may provide some depth value to fantasy owners in deeper formats.
