Steven Oleksy: Heading overseas
Oleksy has signed a contract in the Austrian league, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports.
The 34-year-old defenseman last appeared in an NHL game with the Penguins in the 2016-17 season. He's been bouncing around the minor leagues in North America, but now he'll take his game overseas. It's highly likely Oleksy will play out his career in Europe.

Maple Leafs' Steven Oleksy: Traded to Toronto
Oleksy was traded to the Maple Leafs for winger Adam Cracknell on Monday.
Neither player has an NHL appearance this season. Oleksy -- who has 73 career NHL games under his belt at age 32 -- will serve as organizational depth on the blue line for his new club.

Kevin Bieksa is out indefinitely with a hand injury, so Oleksy will round out the Ducks' depth at defense until Bieksa is cleared to return. The veteran blueliner has enjoyed a hot start to the campaign in the minors, racking up two goals and two assists in five games.

Oleksy was waived by the Ducks on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Oleksy joined Anaheim on a one-year deal in the offseason after suiting up in just 11 games last year with the Penguins. Considering that the Ducks will be without Hampus Lindholm (shoulder) and Sami Vatanen (shoulder) for the first month of the season, the 31-year-old Oleksy likely believed he had a shot at earning a spot on the 23-man roster. Instead, the Michigan native will head to AHL San Diego, assuming he clears waivers.

Ducks' Steven Oleksy: Signs deal with Anaheim
Oleksy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ducks on Sunday.
The rearguard played in just 30 professional games last year, 11 of which came in the NHL with Pittsburgh (one assist, 24 PIM, 20 hits). With 20 points in 73 career NHL contests since 2012-13, Oleksy doesn't figure to see the Ducks' dressing room with any regularity anytime soon, and he'll more than likely report to AHL San Diego come September.

Maple Leafs' Steven Oleksy: Shipped off to Toronto
Oleksy was dealt to the Leafs along with Eric Fehr and a fourth-rounder at Wednesday's trade deadline, with Frank Corrado coming back to the Penguins, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
A little-used piece of the Penguins' blue line, he'll likely now become a little-used piece of the Leafs' blue line. There's nothing to see here for fantasy purposes.

Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Promoted from AHL
Oleksy was recalled from the minors Friday.
Injuries to Olli Maatta (hand) and Justin Schultz (undisclosed) have created a void on the Pens' blue line. In order to plug the gap, Oleksy was called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton along with Cameron Gaunce. It's unclear who might slot into the lineup for Friday's matchup with Columbus, but Oleksy is probably the favorite, as he has the most NHL experience.

Oleksy going on waivers may be an indication that Kris Letang (knee) is ready to return against the Bruins on Thursday. The 30-year-old Oleksy has been a healthy scratch for the Pens' last six contests, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the team is looking to move him back down to the minors. If Oleksy goes unclaimed off the wire, he'll likely be reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The journeyman defenseman didn't appear in a game for the Penguins during his stint in the NHL, and played just one NHL game last season for the Washington Capitals. Oleksy is a gritty defenseman that can provide a team some additional depth on the blueline, but the Penguins have an excess of bodies on defense, so don't expect Oleksy to return to the NHL roster this season.

Oleksy keeps pinballing between the organizational ranks. Currently, the Penguins have defenders David Warsofsky (concussion) and Beau Bennett (upper body) on injured reserve, so the team will examine ways in which Oleksy can contribute. He's a physical player, having amassed 147 PIM with AHL Hershey last season and another 78 minutes in the Sin Bin with AHL Wilkes-Barre this campaign. Still, he's 30 years old, and won't be more than a prayer in fantasy leagues based on his inability to land a consistent role in the NHL.
